I was surprised to see this X reg Escort mk3 1.6 Ghia in a very rough area of Manchester.
Amazingly it looked in very good condition.

A few dents but no corrosion - and the paint looked quite shiny despite looking original.

Image

The only model of car that I ever hated to drive... and I have driven some dogs.
But still a nice example - even the hub caps were very shiny.

Nice find, the last ghia I saw belonged to a mate, and that was decades ago!
It looks odd without a rear wiper, I thought that would be standard on a ghia :o

Looks like his diligence has paid off too, tax/ved exempt this year :cheers

While on my weekly small trolley hunt I came across this Daihatsu Move, not one I remember...

The flat back and roof spoiler caught my eye.
Looked it up at .gov and despite the new owner ramping up the miles it's barely done 40k.

This has almost become a personal challenge, all hail the dashcam :thumb

Once a fortnight I do around 35miles, otherwise it's local and three times a week.
I'm surprised there are so many older cars still on the roads since britain became the world's climate conscience

Anyway, here's the latest. First a couple of youngsters

'98 Astra
Image

'97 rover mini
Image

I have a soft spot for the old mini's, my dad was a typewriter then photocopier mechanic in the 60's- early 70's and they were company cars!
Vans first, then after promotion the luxury of a mini clubman estate, seats for us kids at last

It's rare that I get two oldies on dashcam so here they are, the mini and a ford escort mexico.
Image

I couldn't get a reg from the footage, dashcams aren't perfect but it looked good close up as it passed me :)

Great to see the pasts transport in use. I travelled into the 'ulez' zone recently (cost me £12.5) and I was surprised at the amount of older cars still around.

Scotland will be having fairly hefty fines for older cars in ulez cities. My citroen diesel doesn't meet euro6 so will be unable to go in. I do feel like there shold be a road tax reduction for all these bus lanes and ulez area as they are taking away roads I drive on.

Yes I agree about the road tax deduction. Trouble is, the Govt doesn't see the large amount you pay in tax to keep the car legally on the road as a contribution to road upkeep & building - as it was when it was first introduced in the 1930s.
Instead it's just general taxation - and I fear it's becoming some sort of punishment for having the cheek to actually drive around in your own car. According to Grant Shapps, our esteemed Transport Minister, the "normal modes of getting around" for the general public should be walking or bicycling. And this is from someone who flies his private plane! Rant over!

When Edinburgh first introduced bus lanes I felt the same way, how dare they force everyone into one lane when the inside's practically empty?
Years later I've got used to it and don't mind now, that's where all the potholes and sunken drains are. The problem I'm seeing now is the outside lane is deteriorating because most of the heavy traffic has been moved onto it and councils aren't interested in fixing roads properly.

The city has two le zones that, thankfully, aren't on my route but I don't think it will be too long before it's city-wide. At the very least I think before where lez's start there should be alternative route signs :scratch
They can't afford to reduce our ved, only increase it to subsidise ev's until there are enough of them to tax

p.s. did anyone spot the mini is left-hand drive?

I hadn't noticed it was LH drive. Interesting - I wonder if it was imported back to the UK? It certainly has a few extras fitted - wheel arch extensions, ro-style wheels, door mirrors, fabric roll-back roof (I hesitate to call it a sunroof in our climate!), chrome GB sign (now obsolete since the Govt has changed this to UK).

As for the armoured vehicle - are you expecting a Russian invasion before the rest of us?.

I usually only see military vehicles on the motorway so It was a surprise to see them heading to the city centre. There's probably something on at the castle.
I just noticed the second one has the Punisher logo on the roll bar thing. Don't tell Marvel

Interesting variety this week I think.
I usually check the mot history just to make sure I've got the model and year right. Sometimes there are surprises...

First pics not great  I really need to fit the polarizing filter now that summer's here.

Porsche 924, 1985
Image

Mercedes 'c' class, 1998
Image

Honda civic, 1991
Image

There were two that stood out.

First a Ferrari that I'd followed (not in a stalking way, we were taking the same route :) )
Image
Image

If it wasn't for copy & paste you'd be looking it up yourself
It's a 2021 FERRARI SF90 ASSETTO FIORANO S-A, - a clean(?) hybrid electric with a twin turbo v8.https://www.roadandtrack.com/reviews/a3 ... ck-review/

Not for me, I'd probably need a hoist to get in and out!
I do appreciate seeing something different on the roads nowadays. 2CV or supercar, doesn't matter :)

....the real surprise was this.
Image

I was parked at the time and as it passed I thought old gold RR.
It's not and I think it might be unique. It's registered as a yellow 1969 Muir hill unknown and runs on diesel!
Since muir hill make tractors I assume it's been repainted from 'heavy plant' yellow.

Just checked - that is an M on the end, which identifies a Gold Roller from 1981 - 6750cc.

I think you put in H by mistake.
It is easily done when looking at photos :)

It may not be unique, but I am sure it is not very common either.

I used to know a patient of mine from a council estate in south east Manchester. He had a Rolls Royce parked across the front window of his house.
It must have been there for years as he had grown privets all the way round his front garden, so no way to get the car back out again without a crane - lol.

Hopefully just broken down, and not going to be broken up.

That resembles the last image of my mk2 about 13 years ago, on it's way to the crusher. :(

Not sure if this belongs here as I've never seen one on the road, only in MOT Stations!
Anyone else remember these brake testers? Not sure what figure the tester would be looking for but it goes full scale on the CD!
Picked it up at boot sale for £3, couldn't not!

They used to have to use them with the vauxhall 4x4 since they couldn't only spin one wheel for the brake test.

The new fancy ones now spin the opposite wheel at the same speed in the other direction so the diff balances it out. I thought that was so simple and so clever at the same time.
