Bit more info would be great, engine size/code, for example. Check the electrics under the bonnet, make sure nothing's loose or disconnected, an engine warning light usually represents an electronic fault with a sensor or emissions system.
Crank sensor maybe?

Usually a blocked breather on the inlet / icv system or a faulty cam sensor.
