Fuel filter/pump bracket mounting points

Post by humbucker »

Hey all.

I was fitting a new fuel filter to Turbo #2 today and noticed that the backing plate that the pump and filter are attached to is loose on two of its three mounting points. They look like regular bolts, but further inspection reveals them to have what looks like rubber/silicone blocks attached to the back of the plate. Bizarre. Pics below. Anyone familiar with this? How do I reattach my backing plate to ensure the filter and pump stay put?!

I'm not familiar but looking at the pics id say they are damaged I don't see anyway of those being reattached using the bolt/rubber that's there.

Cheers Chris. It's a bit odd. It's almost like they are mini-suspension mounts (which sorta makes sense I guess). I was thinking of applying some Silkaflex around them and pressing the plate back on? It's odd though, the bolt looks entirely redundant and doesn't actually feed into anything.

They are rubber mountings :) Been years since I messed with any and the nuts usually rust up. The whole mounting plate is held on by two bolts up through the chassis leg with captive nuts I think. Best off changing the whole lot :)

Most vauxhall's have them usually 3, quite common for them to fail as nobody looks under there much.

Cable ties are the quick fix, but the old mini exhaust mounts are a good upgrade as they are the same design but a little larger.

They are knackered. You need 3 new ones like these:

Just make sure they are the same size as the ones you need, loads on ebay. I did mine on my turbo.

Will order some ASAP. Need the car operational for a trip today, so ties were a temporary fix. Dan, how did you find access when fixing them on your turbo? It's a bit fiddly down there!

Tbh i did them when the whole rear subframe was off the car so fid them on the bench and even then they werent easy to get off.

Pretty sure i pulled all the rubber off which leaves you with a thin 17mm bolt and then undone that and out it came. They will be very rusty though.
