Cavalier footwell waterleak

Post by Deegte »

Pulled front driver seat out of cavalier to look for heated seated wires. Found the sponge under the carpet completely soaked. Yet to check passenger side but anybody any idea's were it could be coming from.

Front scuttle drain / heaterbox area
Front inner wings / windscreen
Hole in the floor.

Time to investigate really.

Check the elephant trunk in the engine bay to see if it's blocked as that's normally the common fault as urs the drain way for the scuttle panel

Just a thought is there a website or a manual I could buy would show were all the drains etc are in a cavalier wouldn't mind cleaning/unblocking them all while the car off the road.

Would a Haynes manual show them.

No, the Haynes wouldn't cover that I'm afraid. Check as suggested. Sunroof drains may be blocked too, causing water to build up and find it's way in somehow.

Well you can use my easy guide to at least check the sunroof drains, to see if they are clear..

viewtopic.php?f=44&t=6600 Other than that, I've not really seen any drains either.

I had the same problem, it turned out that there was a rusted hole in the scuttle area in the corner by the wing... get your torch and head up above the pedals and look right in the corner *right up the top right*

Had a look around the scuttle panel tonight the elephant trunk had a bit of junk in it and the wee run ways to it. Cleared them all out with a screw driver and cloth. Found a slight hole after poking hard just above in the scuttle panel were the loom enters the car so cleared it and sealed it. Also seen there is two holes in the scuttle panel were it meets the wings they look like there to be there, looked to be clear is there some were inside the wing it could block up. Have I missed some were around the scuttle panel have i missed any bungs etc I couldn't see much.

A lot of questions lol nothing worse than a damp car.

If its a clean cut hole and nothing is running through it, then youve lost a bung.

If its crusty round the edges, it aint supposed to be there.

Must admit, I did nip into the garage and check up behind the dash and beneath the windscreen when I seen this thread, been having same problem, but found a 5p sized hole in the drivers floor, so either a small patch will be welded or full clean up and reseal.

Elephant trunk and scuttle block will cause footwells to 'flood'. Here is the fix:

i sorted mine by cutting the end of the hardened rubber thing on the bulk head behind the engine, cos it had gone hard it wasnt letting water out quick enough when loads or really heavy rain, nice and dry inside now,
