Timing belt
Timing belt
Hi, can anyone tell me timing belt interval on Cavalier Expression 1995.
Re: Timing belt
I am assuming that being an Expression, that it is either a 1.6 or 1.8 engine.
The recommendation is every 36,000 miles for the belt.
I tend to do my belt every 32,000 miles,
And then the water pump and tensioner every other belt change.
So every 64,000 miles in my case.
The only exception is - if you do not know the history of the car.
In which case I would change the belt at the earliest opportunity.
Just to be on the safe side.

Re: Timing belt
You can do a basic visual check as well by unbolting the top and middle timing belt cover bolts (10mm from memory) and pulling back on the plastic cover to visually inspect as much of the belt as you can see, if it looks thin and worn out, especially if any strands are showing, then replace it as soon as possible. Also grab it and give it a wiggle between the pulleys if you can reach in far enough, to see if it feels too slack, and feel the teeth to see if they feel smooth and worn.
