How2 - Fit a one-touch sunroof

Post by Squig »

This guide was found on tssd, added here as tssd.co.uk appears to be down... anyway omega one touch sunroof into a cav

Fitting an Omega Sunroof Motor in to Cavalier Gsi or Turbo

The Omega sunroof has a Pre select electric sunroof.
This means that you turn the rotary control to the position you require the sunroof and it does it without you having to hold your finger on a button.

The sunroof system features total closure when locking the car. (ie when holding the key @ 45 Degrees the sunroof will automatically close)

You will require:

1. An Omega motor.with built in switch and knob
2. An Omega sunroof surround with hole for round switch.

Physical info from Skullface (cavweb member).

“Physically, the biggest difference is that you have to remove the metal bracket from the roof, it used to hold the old winder but it needs chucking. Then trim the screw fixing lugs so that the trim can fit to the ceiling properly”

This how 2 covers the wiring changes required to fit the omega sunroof into a cavalier GSi or turbo.

An omega sunroof motor can not be fitted to a tigra or calibra.

The omega sunroof connections are as follows.

Pin No. Colour Function
1 Red +12V
2 Brown Earth
3 Brown/Black Alarm Closure (when grouned)
4 Brown/White Diagnostic
5 Black Ignition
6 Blue/Red Speed signal MPH

The existing supply to the sunroof switch should be connected to the omega motor red wire.
At the back of the fuse box, fuse 10, top connection, the wire should be cut and the fuse end should be connected to a thick red +12v supply.wire. eg Fuse top wire.

The black wire to the omega motor should be connected to the courtsey light black wire (ignition)

A new closure wire should be run down the pilliar. This should be connected to the brown/black wire at the omega motor and to the black/brown wire that runs into the doors. This wire can either be found in the wires that run across the floor or on J reg models on at the central locking control unit in the drivers footwell.

A new speed wire should be run down the pilliar. This should be connected to the blue/red wire at the omega motor and to the blue/red or blue wire in one of the following places.

On turbo L reg models and later & V6 models
The blue wire in the blue ABS square plug in the passengers footwell.

On all other models or where the above wire doesn’t exist,
To the blue/red wire at the radio.

There is no point connecting this speed MPH wire up unless you have a fuel comp or 4x4 or ecotec (i.e a speed sensor fitted on the car)
If you have problems with the sunroof not fully closing or tripping out at speed then you will have to fit a sensor and connect it up.

The diagnostics wire for Tech 1 can also be connected if you wish. Connect the brown/white wire from the sunroof to the brown/white wire on the blue ABS connector in the passenger footwell.

After disconnecting the battery, the sunroof requires setting up as follows.

1 Turn the ignition switch to position II.

2 Press and hold the sunroof switch until the sunroof closes and the motor is heard to stop turning.
Release the switch.

3 Turn the sunroof switch to the tilt position the motor should set the sunroof in the tilt position.

4 Press and hold the sunroof switch until the sunroof closes and the motor is heard to stop turning.
Release the switch.

5 Turn the sunroof switch to the fully open position - the motor should slide the sunroof glass back to the fully open position.

6 Turn the sunroof switch to the closed position - the motor should slide the sunroof glass forward.

7 Press and hold the sunroof switch until the sunroof closes completely and the motor is heard to stop turning. Release the switch.

8 The preceding steps should allow the sunroof motor control electronics to learn the open, closed and tilt positions of the sunroof glass. If at any time during the adjustment procedure, the sunroof glass opens unexpectedly, repeat the steps in paragraphs 3 to 7 inclusive as necessary, until operation in satisfactory.
