Handbrake shoe fitting "kit"

My handbrake cable snapped just before Christmas. as I already had new front discs & pads to fit I thought I'd go the whole hog, cables, rear discs/pads/pins/shoes/fitting kit.

I bought apec shoes & fitting "kit" at a local factors for convenience.
It always annoys me when something is described as a kit, then you find parts missing
In this case it was the thrust spring cups.

Ignore that advice!

I've had it confirmed ( thanks Chris at apec ) that the full kit, with spring caps, Is kit 969.
The catalogue doesn't seem to be updated yet, something that was discussed.




When I returned the first "kit" I compared the two. Everything seems to be same size.

969 is the one to get!

The more observant viewers may have noticed a difference in the compression springs - 7 tight-spaced rings vs 4 wide ones.

I must admit I didn't notice right away, I compared pin lengths because that had been a problem in the past.
I'm taking it for granted that the compression's the same (fingers- crossed)!

Fitting should be soon so we'll see how it goes.

I find it odd that the weakest component is omitted in the first kit...

I think all my previous kits had the 4 coil springs in them.

Funny you should say that.
That was my main query when I first contacted them.

Did that include the thrust caps? I only found one, I think by trw that included them in the description.

It seems to me they're available as a "full-kit" but the applications haven't been backdated
Even way back when I had manta's the kit came without cups!

Believe it or not, I had always bought local auto-factor kits, and yes they were always complete with thrust caps.

Never really had to worry about fitment... they were usually listed in one of those big books on the parts guy's counter top.

Bought my last kit in 2016 ready for the car restoration.

"Cavalier Mk3, Drum Brakes.....blah blah" and skadoosh, they just flopped a kit on the counter... happy days.

Things are just so complicated these days.
