Whats the difference between the front arms on a v6 and any other cavalier. I've just fitted standard wish bones to my v6 and just found out on a parts website that there are different part numbers for the v6. #The one's I've got aren't ment for the v6. :?

They may just be reinforced, to allow for the weight and torque of the heavier, more powerful V6 engine.

(Educated guess)

I'd go with the above, probably due to weight.

The actual metal arms are the same but the big bush at the back is differant on some of them, i fitted one to my turbo, it was only a cheap replacement from andrew pages but it had to do, but basically the bush was only half filled at the back so not half as strong as the one i took off.

I don't think it was down to a differant part number i just think it depends where/who you buy the arm off.

I'll try and find a pic.

You can see the differance there, the bush at the bottom, on the left is the new weaker bush and on the right is the original stronger bush

I think it has some some to do with the outta ball joint? as the ball joints are differnt part numbers for the v6 compared to other cav's. But I wont know till I refit the struts.

As said above really, I would put it down to more rubber being used within the bushes to keep the wish-bone stiffer.

Ball Joints should all be the same, as I have never seen them under different part numbers on ebay etc. There is no written differentiation.

Maybe it is just Vauxhall's EPC, as they love to confuse matters for no apparent reason.

Yeah, after more searching I've seen other people list the normal arms and ball joints to fit all engines including 2.5

May it has to do with fact some ball joints come with nylon nuts and others with locking pins. Damn GM making things over complicated. :scratch

HAIRIBO did you fit the wishbones to your v6 that 'werent listed for v6'? how did you get on? i too noticed that there are different part numbers for v6 cavaliers when it comes to wishbones and wanted to be double sure that they'll be ok before i order the 'regular' ones. did you find out what the difference was?! i called vx this morning to ask them but they said its just listed as 2.5 and non 2.5, weren't sure of the differences. was it just the bush as turbodan says?

It fit straight away. the bush was as thick as the one I took off. only difference was on the ball joints. The orginal v6 ones nuts had split pins. The standard ones had nylon nuts. I've seen cheap arms have crappy bushes. But the make I got had normal spec bushes. And look as good as the standard v6 ones.

which ones/make did you go for in the end? did you get different ball joints to match your v6 items? ive seen some listed (not the ebay item i linked to in my first post) for the v6, not a lot of difference in price, just waiting to hear back to find out whether they come with bushes and ball joint complete as so many do. called vauxhall this morning out of interest to find out the differences between v6 and non v6 wishbones, even on trade price they want £75 a side :o !!! i dont think so, aftermarket for the win!! :D

This might be of no use at all but when I changed my wishbones on my mk3 astra the old ones had locking pins on the ball joint and the new ones had nylok nuts could I the difference just be that the pins are factory standard and the nylok is aftermarket spec?

I have a 1994 1.8LSi which has always had nyloc nuts on it - never had the wire clip units fitted!!

its normally only the wishbones with the pins that are put on from the factory.

When you change them they tend to have nylocks

Thats what I thought. So if the only difference with these v6 arms is that they have the nyloks on the ball joint then surely there isn't any difference in the replacement parts?
