A lad at work has just blown his gearbox
I was asking what it was and he said it was a 6-speed job.
That prompted me to ask him what the car was and he informed me that it's a Astra Diesel Estate.
I had no idea they used 6-speed boxes in this type of car, is it an F28 and if so, how many models was it used in other than the Cavalier Turbo?

Re: 6-speed gearbox
Astra diesel? lol that's new to me. By chance, what year is it? If you mean the older Mk3 or Mk4 Astra's, I'm sure they don't have them as an option, so a DIY job if so, maybe the new ones have but I'm not sure.

Re: 6-speed gearbox
I'll find out
it's a 1900cc engine so not so spectacular as to merit a 6-speed 'box I wouldn't have thought

Re: 6-speed gearbox
1900cc sounds like a new model. The older ones only had 1700's, as far as I know. I'm guessing due to the torque of the engine, more gears means more pulling capability. Could be any reason for it though.

Re: 6-speed gearbox
It will be a MK5 Astra With the 1.9 cdti engine using the M32 6 speed gearbox.
These a prone to breaking which is why his has gone. They wont fit a cav without a hell of allot of work as they use completely different mounts and the general setup is different to a cav.
