Sounds like the stop Solenoid on pump, maybe a wiring problem
This is what stops a traditional diesel engine. Also it could very well be jammed open thus not closing when the ignition is off.
....with a brew and my favourite biscuits.

Pull the wire off the solenoid on the back of the pump.
If the engine doesn't stop it has failed for stuck closed.

I once had this on a cdx 2.0l ecotec and the cause was the wrong bulb fitted to the alt light not sure if it is the same with the diesel engine tho
Well, thank you, Mr. Bandit. And as the pursuer, may I say you're the goddamnedest pursuee I've ever pursued

It definitely won't be a bulb in the dash !

Not in a Cav... But my old car (Metro) had a wrong tail light bulb fitted... only way to keep engine running was to have the lights on... as soon as you turned them off it would cut out...

Took me an age to find the fault and felt thick as fook when my old man found it...
Anything is possible with car electrics... lol

Prob the solenoid as said prior though :)

as I said it was just an issue I had and I wasn't sure if the diesel would suffer the same as the eco I ended up sending it to vauxtech who diagnosed it I changed the dash battery bulb to the correct one and all was good
