Td cold start problem

Post by HAIRIBO »

My isuzu has started to have a problem. Just had the relay and glow plugs checked and they garage said they were fine. If it's really cold the car takes a while to start. Then will cut out unless revs are held at 1k. But after a few seconds the car is fine. If engine warm starts straight up.

From what I remember from my old mk3 astra . There is a lever on the diesel pump for cold starts.make sure it's moving and oiled up. Mine was stuck a bit and I had to hold the revs up for a bit to stop it cutting out.

Have you changed the glowplugs recently? I've
found some don't heat up quickly enough even though
they fit.
Otherwise probably the valve clearances need checking .
The inlets tend to close up.

Had plugs checked. It's now booked in a a garage ran by an ex vauxhall dealership mechanic. He's going to do the valve shims.

You could save a few bob if you checked them yourself
first to see if they need doing and then get a garage to
adjust them if necessary.
I do mine every 20000m.
