This is really getting on my nerves sometimes when I start my 1.8 8v spi it stalls straight away and the eml flashes then if I switch it off then leave the ignition on for a few seconds before starting it starts fine. Any ideas what could be causing this?

Could that be the reason the previous owner had the chip from the key in another key (that doesn't work anywhere on the car) Cable tied to the black box inside the steering column? And why would this only occur when I get in and turn the key all the way to start, yet when I turn the key to just ignition then to start its ok. Am I not giving her enough time to read the chip before starting?

sounds like its not reading properly as you say. might be worth trying to replace the chip reader and see if that helps.

Would that involve changing the chip aswell or can I just rip one out a scrap cav? Cos I don't like the cost of main dealer parts
