Vauxhall Cavalier LS Hatchback MK3
Re: Vauxhall Cavalier LS Hatchback MK3
I used to run my motors around and not declare the mods but after a big accident with my 205 Gti I decided from then on I had better declare everything.
All my mods are declared so far and my insurance only went up by about £30 and then down £35 or so for moving to a better area..

Free Parking is a bonus, leaving my Cav in a carbon dust filled carpark is not.....
Re: Vauxhall Cavalier LS Hatchback MK3
Does fitting original vaux stuff count as a mod or not ?

Sorry to hijack your thread markiangsi wrote:Does fitting original vaux stuff count as a mod or not ?
Yes it does count, unless your car came with the exact bits from the factory then they must be declared. Obviously swapping your alloys aint obvious but when they get nicked then you have plenty of questions to answer..

No worries fella, it's all relevant stuff.
I can't see that I am ever going to claim on my insurance, anything over £100 would probably be a write off haha

Re: Vauxhall Cavalier LS Hatchback MK3
Filler cap came this morning, cheers Tom! Will get it straight on
4 new tyres are going on today, bit of a pricey one! But it means I can get a brand new refurbished 5th alloy tyred up to replace the curbed one.
It's probably going to go from current Goodyears to Sunnys lol

Fitted the oil filler cap, new vs old...
Old:
New...ish:
I also changed the cone filter back to standard air box with a Pipercross panel filter. What are peoples thoughts on drilling the air box? As I have a cold air feed in place from when I had the cone.

All four new tyres put on and a few little photos.
A set of 'Events', never had them before.. they're quite chunky and they seem to have tribal tattoos... Hmm
And the new alloy put on instead of the curbed one, which is now wrapped up in the old spare tyre. Going to try and repair that when I can too.

My Cavs with me in the Bournemouth area now, so hopefully I'll see a few others from here on the roads now and again. If you see one in the wrong lane on a roundabout that'll be me.

Re: Vauxhall Cavalier LS Hatchback MK3
Cav went in for it's MOT last week, needed new cv joint, new brake pipes and bit of welding on the exhaust which was pretty good considering last year nothing had to be done. Had the oil changed whilst it was in for the MOT and got the aftermarket backbox put back to standard.
Last years advisories were: Brake pipes, underside dry and rusty rear arches. This year I had a go at sorting the underside and arches myself and this time there was no sign of them on the advisories, good to see the time and money put in was worth it, I know it doesn't always work out that way.
The Engine light has come on permanently now though, everything seems to be running the same though apart from yesterday after a long drive back to Bournemouth I tried starting it up and it wouldn't turn over. Tried an hour later and it started after a struggle but sounded like it was flooded with fuel. Had it looked at by my local garage before I left Devon but couldn't find anything on the computer, so might have a go with the paperclip test.

Haha yeah at the moment I'm only using it to get from Bournemouth to Devon every other weekend or the occasional trip to Sainsburys. If I'm anywhere it's usually around Wallisdown, not seen any Cavs yet either.

Re: Vauxhall Cavalier LS Hatchback MK3
Bit of an update, I got the rear pressed plate on in its new irmscher surround and I spent yesterday realigning the rear mud flaps, the left one had been slightly wonky for months and it was doing my head in.
I also pulled the black papery tape off the front bumper and resprayed where it was, not sure if I like it yet, might spray it black.
Next week I'm getting a 'new' pair of wing mirrors colour coded, fingers crossed they arrive before I go away to work for the summer. Then there might be a cav saloon fund to dip in to!

Thanks, no not for now I'm going to be based up near Staines until late August but then I'll be back in Bournemouth late Sept again, still not seen a single cavalier up there haha.Cavalier342 wrote:Nice subtle mods, I like it. You not down this way any more then?
To right! Its been on my things to do for a real long time, waiting for a decent set of springs and shocks to pop up on here for the right price. Only thing stopping me doing it any earlier has been the amount of full car lifts I always seem to be lumbered with.Dan Richards wrote:needs to be lowered next q

Re: Vauxhall Cavalier LS Hatchback MK3
Got my colour coded mirrors back from the spray shop today. Really pleased with them, I'm going to try and get them on tomorrow. Only cost me £20 to get them sprayed on the condition I did all the prep work myself. The the guy I use has been very reliable and has done my sideskirts and bootlip spoiler to a high level on the cheap too, I'd definitely recommend him to anyone in the southwest. Some snaps in the spray booth.
I'll get some photos of them on soon.
