the golden bullet
hello all,
after having bumped into squig & emma at PV on the weekend, and having saved a cavalier mk3 cdi from the scrapyard on friday, i thought it's high time i log back on, as im finally back in the ownership of cavs again.
here she is.
K-reg Cavalier 2.0 Cdi. 5 door hatch. rembrant silver.
154k on the clocks, manual transmission.
completely standard & very rusty!
named it the golden bullet. duno why, just stuck in my head lol.
heres some pics of here atm:
current modifications since above pics:
EXTERIOR:
lowering springs fitted
scorpion twintail backbox
opel badge on front grille
opc badge on bootlid
flat wiper blades
clear side repeators
various boot window stickers
prefacelift cdi alloy wheels
INTERIOR:
trip computer
ENGINE:
ramair induction kit
splitfire 8mm blue HT leads & uprated plugs
FUTURE PLANS AND MODS:
get it mot'd & tax'd
get the welding done to the boot floor & rear arches
replace the slam panel as its rotten
replace o/s headlight (done now)
replace n/s/r door as its rotten completely
sort out exhaust blow (when i can find where its blowing from, only blows underload up the road, wont blow when being revved up stationary )
get rid of all the rust on the doors/archs etc (which theres plenty of)
EXTERIOR:
prefacelift front & rear bumpers, headlights & rear lights, numberplate panel etc (possibly)
towbar (i need it lol)
headlamp washers
mudflaps (possibly)
INTERIOR:
prefacelift cdi/sri/gsi non airbag steering wheel
replacement cdi or sri seats & doorcards
ENGINE:
18e gasflowed/ported/polished cylinder head
kent camshaft
4 branch manifold/downpipe
gasflowed/ported inlet manifold & throttle body
x20xev red injectors and FPR
not gona do too much to it, as i only bought it as a workhorse as such, and to save it from being crushed.
will update tomorow with more pics once ive got the front legs back on with the lowering springs!
so good to be back with cavs, ask squig & emma, at PV all i wanted to do was go home and fiddle around with the cav lol.
thanks

Re: the golden bullet
Looks like it could be a decent project. What happened to that blue one you had the other week? Other than missing bumpstrips it looked rather tidy.
Nice to see you posting back again too.

Re: the golden bullet
been busy again working on the cav.
she's now lowered, scorpion backbox and few other bits on it now:
in the middle of lowering the old girl:
its abit lower than i thought it would end up lol:
few stickers ive put on it, as they seemed appropriate:
she's getting welded up tomorow, then after that i'l be fitting my towbar, and continuing to modify the old beaut.

never mind though, a good mate of mine has spent 5 hours yesterday starting to weld it up (as theres much more than pictured that needs doing, and he'l be finishing it off tomorow.
spare wheel well, rear arch, rear inner arch, top of boot floors etc have been welded, just needs to put plates under boot floors, o/s/r inner arch, and along the hole rear chassis bit. i think.
then loads of rust treatment and underseal!!!

Re: the golden bullet
Nice project, the plans sound good. Would be interesting to see the power gain for the mods you're doing. A bit rusty considering it's age but as said before... Cav's are rustier underneath most of the time. In saying that, your one seems worse than my dad's early SRi
Love the carpet, would really like to have one like that in my dads Cav (as you've guessed... I'm after one )
What springs you lowered it on?

Re: the golden bullet
Cool, just asking as it ha da good stance. how does it drive with the new springs?
Brother lowered his facelift 16v SRi on 35mm H&R springs. Actually rides as comfortable if not more now (handles miles better though. Mind you he got new shocks all round.

tbh as shes got no mot/tax atm, i havent really took it for a run properly, but seems alot less bouncy then the original suspension!

Re: the golden bullet
as requested, welding pics.
i swear this cav was parked every night backwards into a pond.
my mate who's doing the welding has spent 2 days solid on it now, and still needs to come back again tomorow to finish it off!
then tuesday is spent rust treating, undersealing and painting the old beast.

Nice to see some welding, it really was a rusty thing. Just makes our cav project look that bit easier now

Re: the golden bullet
i will admit, once i started poking and my screw driver didnt stop going through to the other side for some time, i did nearly scrap it.Nova_Tek wrote:Nice to see some welding, it really was a rusty thing. Just makes our cav project look that bit easier now

but thankfully ive got a good mate who does welding for a living (hates welding cars though lol) and he kindly charges me naff all, else this would have been scrapped.
will update with more pics next few days once ive finished undersealing/rust treating it, and my mate has finished welding it.

Re: the golden bullet
Did he weld that lower arch panel bit on with the door closed?
Also - did you give those rear chassis legs a good going over before plating up/

i checked the rear chassis legs, and just removed the rust, i let my mate take care of it, he just cut the rot out and welded a hole plate over it. the towbar will be covering this up anyway.
