well had a bit of cav time today and cracked on with the leaky core plug, after removing air box and associated hose, pipes etc, removed exhaust manifold turbo, and power steering pump.

Image

Image

to reveal the offending core plug

Image

i know i said earlier that its easy to remove a core plug, and it usual is, but this bad boy took me nearly two hours to get out, with the restricted access not helping, well and a few scraped knuckles and arms and a lot of cursing and swearing lol, i got it out and the new one fitted

Image

i got the power steering pump back on and this is the way i left it

Image

to be contiued next week, as saturdays are usually the only free time i have,

A lot of work to change a plug. I would have changed the other ones too. As they have been exposed to the same environment as the leaky one.

Well done, these 'little' jobs always seem to take the most time and blood! Any progress is progress!

well sorted the cav out today, re fitted exhaust manifold and turbo, and all the associated hoses, fitted airbox , fan, and auxillary belt etc, filled up the fluids, coolant and power steering fluid, and ran the cav up to temp, everything seems ok, , didnt have time for a test drive, but hope to put a few miles on it over the weekend.

fitted astra vxr injectors

Image

ive been having trouble with the car boosting, lately, think it could be the amel valve, so I fitted a Turbosmart dual boost controller

Image

also fitted a high/low boost switch for the boost controller

Image

got the cav running on low boost, (8psi) and it running really good, fuelling seems to be spot on, 12s and 13s normal driving, 10s and 11s on boost,
going to get it set up on a rolling road later, to get the high boost set up.

also put a gold plaque on my fuse box, for the cav winning a award at the recent Retro car show.

since I upped the boost ive had a hose pop off twice, so yesterday I secured the hoses properly with new mikalor clips, I also wired in new polished battery clamps and fitted a polished battery top cover, its all about the bling LOL

Image

Image

also fitted some new dash clock, with the white dials, as the other ones were looking a bit tatty

fitted my own oil/press and water/temp gauges into the standard oil/volt facia, still got a few marks on that I will sort out, but I think it will look ok ,im putting the stereo unit back into the top din slot, and these in the bottom din slot where they belong.

should look ok when they are fitted. Ads

That's cool, I didn't know you could get water temperature instead of oil pressure. Seems a bit pointless though as you have the on-board coolant gauge, but looks different. :thumb

the reason I put the water temp gauge in as I was having trouble with the standard one giving false readings, ive had this one in the cav for a while in a different facia and I know I can trust the readings, Ads

Fair play, I see.. I guess it's the same with me and the volt gauge, i.e. the light comes on if there is a problem with charging on normal clocks, but it's nice to see what the alternator is doing during normal operations. As for the oil one, I need to get a special sender unit for my engine, but at the moment it's disconnected.

Looks tidy to me, not sure about the carbon fiber ashtray but I guess it's down to personal choice :thumb
