BRITISH TV SHOW SEEKS MK 3 CAVALIER TURBO 4X4
Re: BRITISH TV SHOW SEEKS MK 3 CAVALIER TURBO 4X4
That wont help handling, the 4 door setup was claimed to give more body rigidity than the 2 door setup on the calibra.

Searching Sky, they are only up to episode 7, so guess it'll be another few weeks.

Re: BRITISH TV SHOW SEEKS MK 3 CAVALIER TURBO 4X4
I am sure they will have put some form of ladder style arrangement in the roof to provide a hidden roof brace.
I guess all will be revealed in about two weeks.
I was excited to look at a recomissioning program on the Cavalier...
I should be impressed by the innovation, but instead I seem to have lost interest, because it will be too extreme for my head to handle.
Re: BRITISH TV SHOW SEEKS MK 3 CAVALIER TURBO 4X4
At least the Cavalier is getting some recognition at last as a modern classic the least it deserves. Always seems to be in the shadow of the Serria cosworth.
Re: BRITISH TV SHOW SEEKS MK 3 CAVALIER TURBO 4X4
Yeah, but if you were offered a mint sierra cosworth and a mint cavalier turbo, what would you honestly go for?
David
Re: BRITISH TV SHOW SEEKS MK 3 CAVALIER TURBO 4X4
If i had to keep it, then i would go for the Cavalier in a heartbeat, but otherwise, I would have the Sierra, sell it then buy the Cav, and pocket the change.
Re: BRITISH TV SHOW SEEKS MK 3 CAVALIER TURBO 4X4
I had an E reg Serria sapphire 1.6L turned me off of Ford's. Traded it in for an mk 2 Astra SRI.
Re: BRITISH TV SHOW SEEKS MK 3 CAVALIER TURBO 4X4
As expected...
The Cavalier is on National Geographic on Thursday 5th May at 8pm.
Sky - 129
Virgin - 226
BT & Talk Talk - 317

Re: BRITISH TV SHOW SEEKS MK 3 CAVALIER TURBO 4X4
A white 3 door sierra cosworth passed me last week, it still looks really nice.
Oddly I dont find the cavalier turbo a nicer shape than the normal cavalier, the small cosmetic changes do work for me. Worse still are the ones with big intercooler on an open bumper..

I have to agree -
My favourite Cavalier is a facelift Smoke Grey SRi.
My least favourite Cavalier is mine -
I have fell out with the Angel Eye headlamps and Gun-Metal Grey Fanblade alloys.

I recommend looking at the Car S.O.S. facebook page, as they often post up extended video segments.
I think they have done segments on all the engines in this series.
Making the carpet for the Escort RS2000 (my favourite of this series so far - but I have always liked the Mk2 RS2000).
Chemical dipping the Opel Manta.
And more besides.

The "laser cannon" was serieously cool for rust removal in the corrado episode.

To be honest, we sort of knew what was going to happen, so not such a huge spoiler.
But it does poo poo my original concerns about getting a severely disabled person into a standard saloon car.
From a clinician's point of view, I will be intrigued if they show the transfer - I presume a low level hoist, similar to what I used for my engine transplant.

Well I watched the episode.
It all makes sense now.
I didn't feel the emotional tug in the way that the presenters did,
But I did feel a lot of frustration and sadness at my own car sat 30 ft behind my house.
Untouched and unloved for two years and two months

I watched this episode this morning and got to say that I was really disappointed. To be fair what they did for the poor owner was great, however there was very little restoration process shown. Surely they could of shown a bit on stripping and rebuilding the engine, and no cavalier restoration would be complete without showing what is involved with fitting the rear arches( my cav is the only one I've seen that doesn't need attention there, although I'm sure there's the odd other one that has solid arches.)
When I watched the program years ago , before I got too fed up with tim there always used to be more work done.

Re: BRITISH TV SHOW SEEKS MK 3 CAVALIER TURBO 4X4
I am sure there was a lot of Cavalier weak-spots or items of interest to us enthusiasts that they "could have" focused on, but it is only a 1 hour show. And it is for a generic audience, not Vauxhall only viewers.
I suppose they thought that the transfer box and the Swedish transfer wheelchair were more relevant and interesting.
I was pleasantly surprised that Tim didn't do his usual baffoonery.
Great to see the Cavalier featured, even if it was a slightly "muted" episode.

I'm not there yet, though there have been fairly well stripped engine rebuilds and mechanical parts up to now.
The japanese screwdriver cameo was unexpected in the supra episode.

Re: BRITISH TV SHOW SEEKS MK 3 CAVALIER TURBO 4X4
The Car S.O.S. Facebook site has some "extras" including -
a slightly extended version of the engine reveal and a paritial install. (Nothing to get excited about).
And
A sequence on the suspension and brakes that were not shown in the program.
Just fitting the front off-side strut and disc.

Tim has been better this series, he used to annoy me a bit in the past

Re: BRITISH TV SHOW SEEKS MK 3 CAVALIER TURBO 4X4
Finally up to episode 9, gearbox and transfer box were an odd place to start checking, would have much preferred to see the engine rebuild part.
Oddly the most most noticiable part was the sound of it starting, and think that sound exactly like mine turning over. And they all rattle when cold, until the oil gets into the hydraulic lifters.

Re: BRITISH TV SHOW SEEKS MK 3 CAVALIER TURBO 4X4
The other noticable thing was that replacement car wasn't even near a turbo asked for, looked like a white 1.8L with fake spoiler taped on, and clearly the wrong exhaust sticking out. He'd have spotted that exhaust in a flash.
You do wonder what the actual cost of these conversions are. It would be very interesting to see a wheeler dealer style run down at the end of parts and labour.

Re: BRITISH TV SHOW SEEKS MK 3 CAVALIER TURBO 4X4
Wheeler dealers is far from an accurate costing, a lot of jobs are performed by specialists at far below the cost to the general public, no fuel is ever quoted, I.e when it collected, and running round for parts. No electricity etc either? Plus advertising costs aren't factored in. A perfect example of this is the recent Wheeler Dealers Dream Car series.
Re: BRITISH TV SHOW SEEKS MK 3 CAVALIER TURBO 4X4
The rattly engine comment was probably thrown in so that they could "justify" stripping porting and tuning the engine.
Bizarrely, they go through all this expense, but leave a cheap service item untouched for the MOT.
An advisory for a bottom ball joint or something showing some but not excessive play.
Yet they were reported to have replaced "the collapsing suspension".
No rhyme and reason, but hey ho.
