Almost 90 miles done now and all ok,will give it a few more days before opening it up.

The G exh cams and/or tweaking of the inlet cams timing have definitely upset the cold running and warm up,it runs really lumpy untill its up to temp.
The surging I used to feel at around 3000rpm on the std ECU is still there but seems worse. Both these problems will go once I bolt my Canems ecu on.

300 miles covered, engine all good.Given it some full throttle and has plenty of power.
Need to get the Canems on to fully dial it in,I reached the limit of the 2.5 ecu a while ago.

Still got the issue with the cooling fan not switching off.Haven't sussed why its doing it,current solution is to pull the fuse out,it runs on a different circuit to the main fan.
Have figured out which relay is which under the bonnet.

Image

Blue is the main fan
Green is to run the fan after switch off.
White is the aux cooling pump.
The 30amp fuse for the slow fan should be next to the 40 amp main fan(the big-ass orange one)

Also did a little mod to the front sunroof drain as I'm still shocked that Vauxhall thought it was a good idea to fill the sill with water. :o
Got some clear pipe that fitted snugly into the drain hose, drilled a hole in the front of the inner sill behind the arch liner and fed the pipe to the outside world.

2000 miles covered in 8 weeks, engine all running sweetly, and feeling really strong.

change gearbox oil
New rear tyres

Roll on March

Well March is almost upon us,so time to wheel the 3 litre back out. :D

Of the above jobs,I went to fit the new manifolds, but have managed to lose the gaskets somewhere in the garage so need to find or replace them.
Checked gearbox oil level is ok.
As for the other jobs, the wettest winter on record put a stop to anything else. :x
I did today however manage to repair the rusty Koni shocks by fitting the plastic outer cover from the cheapo Monroe shocks I bought to get it through the MOT.

Hacked off the rustiness.

After a bit of drilling to the metal washer, fitted the Monroe tube.

Will tax it this Saturday in readiness for Ryton VBOA

One anti roll bar link done today, the old one was completely shot.
Local motor factors only had one in stock,do the other one next weekend.

Next job will be the front wishbones.

Got quite a bit done today;

Fitted the other ARB link.
Replaced one of the tailgate gas struts that gave up overnight.Got a pair from the local scrappy off a Corsa C for £10
Fitted the drivers door mirror.
Lubricated all the drivers window mechanism because it was slow to open/close.
Stopped an annoying rattle in the drivers door.
Replaced the damper ring on the gearstick and shimmed the bottom clevis to take up some of the freeplay.Found the damper ring was split in two, no wonder the gearstick was like stirring custard.
And finally gave it a wash because the scrapyard is up a long mud and puddle covered lane.

Knackered damper ring.

Also replaced the inlet manifold rubbers on the FZR.
Best leave the cars and bikes alone tomorrow or MrsCav6 will kick off. :no

Finally got around to fitting new wishbones and front dampers yesterday.
Bit sad that both the konis have been hosing oil out, not sure it they can be serviced or how much this would cost.
Had to replace with basic non adjustable KYB.
All went to plan apart from one seized track rod adjuster.
Did notice the ABS rings are getting very corroded, saw they are available on fleabay, has anyone tried fitting new ones?

Swopped these;

KYB's are nice budget shockers I found.
ABS rings, fitted a couple on vectras. Old ones knock off, new ones slip on and friction fit normally.

Found some random shims from work, about 0.25mm thick and slid them either side of the gearstick into the bottom pivoting clevis and pushed the pin through.Stops the forward and backwards freeplay.

Investigated a noise that has developed on cranking and found a couple of teeth missing on my Courtenay L/W flywheel, :( :( :(

Will give them a ring tomorrow and see if I can get a new ring gear for it.
Hoping its the same as a std VX part.

Contacted Courtenay, not a massive amount of help I'm afraid.
I found an old std FW and tapped the ring gear off, will get my L/W one off and measure the two up,if all is good will heat the ring gear and bung the FW in the freezer when MrsCav6 isn't looking and pop them together.
Looks like my weekend is planned out already....

Man that blows. Hopefully, it's sortable.
Is Courtney another company with the "We have you money, goodbye" mindset?

Took the V6 along to the Pod today, haven't been for nearly 3 years.
Bit disappointed with the results, only managed a 15.3 @90 mph which is 0.9 secs down on my best. :scratch

Put this down to a few factors;

Didn't get chance to fit my track wheels which are smaller diameter and so lowers the overall gear ratio.
Had to take my canems ecu off as I couldn't talk to it and it was knocking a bit at some speeds.
I'm 3 years older and lost my ability to launch it properly.

On the plus side my stage 1 clutch did just fine,no slipping on the gear changes.

Did 6 runs and saw I was flogging a dead horse and gave up.Sat in the stands and watched the action for a bit.
For reference a 55 plate Imprezza did a 15.0 and a Ferrari F430 a 12.5 so maybe the old V6 wasn't so bad on the day?

Sounds like you fixed the flywheel then? :)
Wouldn't worry too much, still seems very respectable considering :)

No have carried on running it as it is, bit noisey on starting thats all.
I'm taking it off the road at the end of the month as the 6 months tax will run out, will fix it over the winter.
