Vauxfest 2018 - Billing Aquadrome 1st - 2nd September

Post by James McGrath »

After taking a year out, Billing is returning to hosting car shows for 2018!
With the VBOA moving to Market Harborough for it's annual event, the Billing Aquadrome will be playing host to an all new Vauxhall event this year, Vauxfest!

The event is open to all Bedford, Opel and Vauxhall models and will be taking place over the weekend of 1st/2nd September.

Price is £10 per car, per day to be paid on entry.

There will be no official club stands for this event and entry is strictly on an individual basis.

More information is available here:

I will be doing the Saturday of the Market Harborough VBOA event,
but I will see how that goes before committing to the Billing event.

(I have a long history of failed attempts to go to Billing - not sure if someone or something is trying to tell me something).

As there are no official club stands at this event can we try and organise our own stand to try and beat the simply vauxhall total of 12 cars at an event ? I'll attend in one of my cavs.

After attending half of the VBOA Saturday,
I did indeed notice a fair few Cavs there.
It would be nice if all the Cavs, regardless of club affiliation could be grouped together on the VauxFest event.

My wife said she really enjoyed herself, so I will be putting myself forward for attending on Saturday 1st September 2018.

Hopefully by then the Cav will be finished as intended.

VauxFest will roughly mark 30 years of the Mk3 Cavalier,

And it will mark 3 weeks before the end of the 10th Anniversary year of our forum CavMk3OC / Vauxhall Cavalier.com
(Formed on 22 September 2008 if my memory serves me right).

As James McGrath, Gary (Envoy CDX) and myself all plan to attend, it should be a rare opportunity for an Admin team meeting.

Since taking over the Performance Porsche magazine, Humbucker has not been able to commit time to the forum, therefore I do not expect Dan Humbucker to be in attendance.
Otherwise the whole team would have been there.

Suppose it would be a very tall order to hope for 30 cavs to be there to celebrate 30 years...

Can anyone spread the word?
Most of us visit various other Vauxhall sites.
MigWeb, Cavalier and Chevette, VODC, CTOC etc...

Make a great picture too :cool

It would make sense for Billing to arrange the parking to put all of each model into their own area.

I have e-mailed Richard at VauxFest to see what the planned parking format will be, and I have explained the significance of this year's gathering for the Cavalier mk3.

I will let you know of any response if / when I get it.

And here is Richard's reply...

Hi Rob

The idea of Vauxfest is what ever turns up next is parked up next to you, now if you would like to do a celebration for the Cavalier Mk3 30th anniversary, I would be only to happy to keep a special section of the showground for a special anniversary display.

James, do you think your friends from the Cavalier and Chevette Club could join us and bring their "The New Cavalier" banners with them.?

Very possibly.
Richard is actually one of the key members of the Cavalier and Chevette club.
I believe the banner belongs to Kevin Bricknall though. I'll ask him.

Excellent news James ...

Might be a nice twist to do something for the clubs 10 yrs in existance..

As per some picture / poster ideas we had last year.
I still have an image of each of the three forum headers from the past ten years.

I am not great at organising stuff, but want us to make a splash this year.

I have had a weird issue, where outlook has been deleting my messages from Richard.
Bizarre but true.

Here is a further message from him.

Hi Rob
I can make a special area dedicated for a Cavalier Mk3 30th anniversary display for you and other Cavalier Mk3 that attend Vauxfest.
The only thing is you can't put up any thing club related for Vauxfest 2018.
If you can at some point give me a rough guide on how many Cavalier Mk3 that could be attending will reserve area space.
All The Best
Vauxfest

I have no idea how many would be going.
Can anyone let us know if they plan to attend as soon as possible, so that I can give Richard a rough idea of numbers.
I will update James' original list as and when people reply.

Thanks...

Excellent news - the more the merrier.

Hopefully James and Richard will rally support from the Cavalier and Chevette club.
That was the club with the most mk3's on it at VBOA last week.
Probably about eight or ten cars including three from James' and his dad's personal fleets.
iangsi wrote:I'll be there on Saturday if that's the general consensus of opinion, already booked the Friday off work
I don't think there is any consensus as such. It just seems that Saturday is the most popular day for forum members to attend.

I am off on the Thursday, so any last minute niggles will be sorted on that day.
Sod's law permitting.

I am spreading the word, by posting info on VxON, OpComUsers and Vectra-C.com.
If it isn't a massive turn out, it won't be due to lack of trying.

Don't worry,
I had updated the first list, immediately after your post above.

Looks like my wish to do something for 10 yrs of the Cavalier Mk3 club / forum may not be allowed (no club stands or banners), but we can still have a great time.

So far it looks like only James is hard core enough to stay the whole weekend.

Hopefully we can all meet up at some point and have a chin wag. Even if all our cars aren't in the same place.

Lizzie and I will be camping.
My father will be there but I'm not sure if he will stay both days this time though. Depends if he can find a hotel or not; he's not too keen on the camping idea.

To be honest James,
there is no reason why our club cars cannot be together.
Richard was quite happy to set an area aside just for Mk3 Cavaliers.

I know Gary (Envoy CDX) will be in his Toyota Yaris CDX, so will have to park 'away' from the Cavaliers, but I am sure we will be easy enough to find...

As for camping... hmm when you get past your mid-40s, your bones don't need an excuse to ache, so lying on the ground in a tent, is just begging for dodgy knees and hips.
As a newly 50 year old, I can attest to this fact.

Me and my mate Dylan will be attending in the Diesel cav, at the moment our plan is to meet up with my mate Tim and convoy down to billing, I will ask and see if he likes the idea of joing us in his CDX.

Now my cavs on the road I've still got a few things left to change/fit so hopefully I will find the time before Vauxfest.

I could post about the mk3 cav gathering on the Facebook group "Cavalier Corner" and see if any of the mk3 owners could join as I know some are planning on coming if this would be desired.
I also know a few other people with cavs that I can ask.

The more the merrier.

The plan is to get as many Cavaliers as possible in one place.

Regardless of trim level, overall condition or even variations in modification, all Cavaliers are welcome.
Just bring what you drive.
I am sure non-runners could be trailered in. (It happens at VBOA, so why not?)
If in doubt, just send a message to the official organiser at
Vauxfest@gmail.com.

Remember it is my understanding that the two day event is just a very informal version of the VBOA day, so I assume the auto jumble and food trucks will be available.
(But I am not involved in the event so I do not know what is planned).
The only definite thing is no club banners nor stands.

The Cavaliers parked together is just the result of a query I made to Vauxfest, which has informally been okayed.

Please feed back numbers asap, so that I can advise Richard, so that he can set aside enough space.

People can PM me, email me or post up on here to add their name.
I am on here at least 4 or 5 times a day, and all PMs, topic replies and Emails are notified to my phone in real time.

I will post up on the group today explaining that we are trying to unofficially organise getting mk3 Cavaliers parked together at Vauxfest although there is to be no club banners or stands due to the way that the event is set up and that all persons willing to join must let me know asap so I can relay the information back to you guys as we are trying to organise the get together.
Hopefully we can succeed and get a nice collection of mk3's :D
