CavMk3OC 2014 London to Brighton run

Post by humbucker »

So, I was thinking about the next CavMk3OC Eastern Region meet and where I might suggest we go (gotta have a location/something to do!) and thought that we might encourage wider participation if we venture into a new area - a kind of cross-county Cav meet?! You'll note that I'm not saying 'national meet' as I think it's still too far South for that, but I'd be interested to know who would be up for a London to Brighton run when the weather clears up a bit in the New Year? We would/could meet somewhere like Crystal Palace, then take a route that ignored the motorways in favour of A and B roads, the A23 down to Brighton. Then enjoy an ice cream and fish and chips or whatever in Brighton? Very loose idea at this stage, but thought it might be a cool run out. We could try and plan it to coincide with an event or something taking place at the final destination? Thoughts?

Why not include Vauxhall and the Luton Vauxhall factory?

Andrei, do you mean as part of the London to Brighton run? If so, your geography might be slightly out. If you mean for another outing, then the Heritage Centre opens its doors throughout the years for owners to pop by, that's another outing in its own right. I usually attend each year to cover the event for Total Vauxhall magazine, so I'll be sure to post details on the forum in another topic.

Luton is almost as far north of London as Brighton is south of it Andrei. Unless you were thinking of the Vauxhall that is by the river thames?

Colour me interested, I used to do it in the mini!

Not much in Vauxhall Andrei to make it a worth while trip. The company was founded on Wandsworth Road in the London Borough of Lambeth - the site is now a large Sainbury's, but there is a plaque on the side of the Sainbury's petrol station there. There is also a pub called 'The Vauxhall Griffin' on Wyvil Road opposite the supermarket.

Vauxhall's founder, Scottish engineer Alexander Wilson, took the Falkes de Breauté’s heraldic griffin as his company badge. Through marriage, Falkes de Breauté gained rights to property sound of the Thames and build Faulke's Hall. Interestingly, King John awarded his loyal sidekick (Falkes) the manorship of Luton!

How about we fix a date for August/September. Most shows are out of the way by then and gives us time to drum up some proper interest.

If I can bring about the eventual repairs and partial restoration of the Blue Horror, I'm certainly up for this.
Never use another Cav driver as guidance to a destination, unless you REALLY want to explore the country.
