Are you drunk and making random posts like I used to do?

My first experience in a Cavalier can be explained like this:

Once driven, forever smitten. :D
Previous:
China Blue 1989 Vauxhall Cavalier L 18SV
Kings Blue 1992 Vauxhall Cavalier LSi Auto C18NZ
Smoke Grey 1994 Vauxhall Cavalier V6 C25XE

Am I a light sleeper or a heavy sleeper? Well that depends on how much I've had to drink...

Not that I would remember it first hand, but was when I was being driven back from the hospital after being born :)

The first experience I do remember however is pressing the sport mode button on my nan's auto :D  lol

My first experience of a Cavalier was when the Mk3 was first introduced. I was a massive Mk2 fan, ten years old, and my Dad had a C-reg Mk2 SRi hatch that followed an X-reg GLS. I remember being very unsure of the Mk3 as it was such a leap forward from the Mk2. A few years later (the glory days of the mid 1990s!), exposure to the GSis of friends convinced me of the merits of the Mk3, and I was genuinely gutted when the Bordeaux Red example of one of my chums ended up wrapped around a lamp post. I vowed to buy one for myself, and I did go to view a couple before I bought my V6 CDX. Sadly, all the GSis that I went to see were rotten (hence me buying a V6), but I know that owning a GSi would have been a stepping stone to a Turbo anyway. These days, I own three Turbos, and I think that it's one of the best cars that Vauxhall has ever produced. I've been bombing about the A149 Norfolk coast road in Turbo #1 all weekend - what a hoot! Such a fantastic car.

My dad got a. Blue saloon with blue seats and dash as company car 22 years ago. My sister was got it as her first car a few years later. I drove it liked it and bought a cdx. I.Td had cavs for over 14 years now. And my modified Td hatch still puts smile on my face. People ask why you driving an old car? Why don't you buya modern car. But I love the old school feel of them.

First experience of a Cavalier was the mk1, and arguments with my mate next door about whose dads car was faster based on what the highest number on the speedo was.

My dad had an old blue one.... which became mine :) he had it about 8 years before I had it...
My sister lived with her mum in Portsmouth and we lived in swindon...
One day he had to take me... (to young to leave alone)
I played with the TAPE deck, Turned the bass up (Became a bass addict) then he put his foot down :)

Was only a C20NE but to me it took off!!!
Loved the shape, loved the ride, loved the feel... LOVED the Cav!!!

Making me want another now :(

Well lets see....

My Vauxhall love started due to my stepdad at the time who had a mk2 Cavalier hatch which had a few choice mods to the 2 litre lump making it a proper road weapon the way he used to drive anyway, had overbored head / pistons etc and was or felt properly quick.

My Mum then bought a 1.8 mk2 Cavalier which was a total pain in the arse and I remember working on its electricals most weekends trying to keep it running, eventually we gave up and she sold it on but was a Lxi I believe so was spec'd up well.

Years later my Mum bought a mk3 Cavalier 1.4L which was about as basic as a car could ever be but for a 1.4 it went ok surprisingly, this was also my second car as my first car although not a Cavalier was a mk2 Astra which was so much fun and I have always wanted another one despite its 1.3 Ohc engine it went well but with a 2000w stereo system, Peco BB4 exhaust and a Gte bodykit.....Looking back it was a shed.

My love for not just Cavaliers but Vauxhalls runs deep and so far I have had 3 Astras, 2 Novas (both sh*tters) and now 2 Cavaliers one of which has just been written off but will be back on the road probably next week fingers crossed..
Free Parking is a bonus, leaving my Cav in a carbon dust filled carpark is not.....

I have had loads of cavs since I had my first one, which was a white SRI with the lt ecotec engine, I had this a few months but got pissed off with all the sensor faults, so I ripped the ecotec out and fitted the cav v6 engine, with the f20 gearbox, it made 196 bhp in this guise but I still wasn't happy, so I fitted a uprated c20 let still coupled to the f20 box, and went mad with the body work, smoothed door handles, body kit with the bumper blended into the body work, smoothed boot etc etc, and the cav was painted jungle green with multi coloured speckles, it took about twelve coats of lacquer to get the finish right, it turned into a right chav mobile, but remember this was the late ninteys and this was the in thing,
pic when cav was white with v6

then when I went mad with the body kit and filler, lol

My Mk3 LS 1.6 - bought it for 50quid and it was probably the most solid of all of them that I've owned. Scrapped it after a hissy fit one day and have always regretted it.

Covered 50 thousand miles in the 14 months I owned it (back when petrol was cheap) and I think I only replaced a spring, and the oil on the old girl.

It's all the wife's fault!!!

I always drove granny clampet cars..
1980 Toyota Corolla KE70 and then a 1986 Austin Maestro.
(I know that I should cringe in embarrassment saying that, but both cars served me well and taught me car mechanics..)

When I met the wife she had a 1987 Mk2 Cavalier 1300 base. Small engine but very fast on a 4 speed box.
Much quicker top speed than a Rover 216 5 speed at the time.
I was so impressed with the Cav that I have had nothing but Vauxhalls since.

In 1995, on her request, our next car was a 1994 Cavalier mk3 1.8 LSi.
We tend to stick with what works well, and so any car has been a long term prospect.
The Mk2 we kept until 2009, when vandalism and rot sent it to the crusher.
So ours for 20 yrs overall.
The mk3 we still have, but again extensive underside rot brings threats of the crusher.
so far another keeper for 19 years and two months.

The current daily hack is the 2005 version - Vectra-c, which we have owned for 9 1/2 years.
It's okay, but not the same... and possibly the last Vauxhall we'll ever have.

Not heard anything good about the new Insignias -
BUT I never hear of any diagnostic problems on my other websites..
Plenty for Corsa D and Astra J, but so far not one fault query on an Insignia.

Don't worry no chance of going to Ford, with their minimalist ideas of corrosion resistance treatments..
check out underside rot on C-max's and late model Transits.

Probably a VW Passat, Seat Leon or Skoda Octavia next time...........
