Economical!

Just fitted the CDi with a new 4 branch manifold and replaced the centre box with a straight through section which has definitely perked up the performance.
Last weekend saw a 175 mile round trip mainly on motorways and A roads majority of the time I was trying to maintain 70mph which returned just over 53mpg!
Is this a record! (it is for me) It makes me wonder what could be achieved without all the 50mph speed limits and road works?
Bring back the fuel consumption trials of days gone!

That's amazing for a 2 liter! The more efficient the engine is at putting power down, the less you have to work it to cruise..

That's good for running about and a mix of Mways and A Roads. The best I got out my old 2 litre non-cat was 59MPG on a long Mway run. That was without any mods or anything so reckon you could get over 60mpg with feather foot.

Got a 1.8 with Cat now which is not as good MPG day to day as 2.0 (so much for progress!) get 39 MPG mix of mway and town. Reckon could get about 50MPG on a mway run.

Really impressive! I think the most I got out of my 1.8 (MPi) was 45-47mpg but that was ages ago.

I got around 40-45MPG from my SPI 1.6 on my run up to Canterbury. That was mainly B roads and country lanes.

The highest MPG I've ever got from any of my Cavs was 52.5 (once again in the 1.6) on my run up to see Troy a couple of years ago.

I have no idea how you got such high MPG from a 2.0. I average around 37MPG from my Diplomat. Admittedly I hardly ever go on motorways though.

Filled tank in Scotland, hit motorway, cruised down at steady speed got to SE England, filled tank, took litres to refill and done this calculation:

amount of litres/4.545 = Amount of gallons used

Then: miles covered/gallons used - 59 MPG

Just back from blackpool. Mainly motorway all the way there & back, although 4 sets of roadworks @ 40 or 50 for a while, and 5 days urban. Filled up in Scotland, then again on leaving. 32.24l after 285 miles so just under 41 mpg.
2l ecotec, wide ratio gearbox.
If this had been my sri ecotec with the close ratio box it would have been around 32-34
