:( Another one bites the dust. :(

Post by VauxhallGirl »

My faithful olf TD failed its MOT last week on excessive corrosion.

Looked underneath while it was over the pit (a guy was going to weld it up for me, but didn't realise the extent of the problem), and it is very rusty. Both spring hangers need lots of welding...and the floor is pretty bad too. Couldn't believe how bad it was. :(

So he has to come off the road. :(

His engine would go on for ever...and mechanically he was fine for the MOT.

I don't know....he is not a fabulous example....been a workhorse for the past ten years of his life, so a fair few dents and scratches (not by me I hasten to add....I always park him in the far corner of Tescos so no more dents appear!). Needs to go to someone who will do him up I guess, as I don't have the time or knowledge.

He has been a great car....always started first turn of the key....cumfy...generally just a pleasure to drive.

Think this last wet winter has been the finish of his undercarriage. Water gets in somewhere anyway, so wet floor inside too.

To be fair, it can still probably be repaired to standard, it's just budget/time. Rot is rot, it gets any car, but prevention like underseal helps to extend the life :thumb

Speak to Troy before you give up on it, he's very good with these, does it with passion but without changing the earth.

Pretty much what they said.

Troy has a lot of experience with making up spring seats and good quality welding.
It is more or less a matter of your choice.

Anything can be repaired - it all comes down to the value you place on the car. And your financial situation.

My car, like yours is a work horse that has had a hard life for the last 9 years.
It ain't worth that much in monetary value, but I would be happy to keep throwing money at it just so I can keep driving it.
19 years of ownership so far - and who knows how many more to come.
