Trailer Teltail

Post by hipo1024 »

Sorry if this is in the wrong section

I've recently fitting a tow bar to my cav and I wired up the socket with the proper wiring vauxhall put under the plastic cover in the boot (all the trailer lights work as they should). I had hoped that in doing this rather than tapping into the wiring at the back of the light clusters the telltale on the dash would work, but it doesn't :(

I've put a bulb in the dash for it because it didn't have one but still no joy

Is there a fuse or relay that needs adding or even some wiring that needs adding?

Cheers in advance

It probably needs a four pin flasher relay to make it work, I did a freelander one last year and that was the answer to that?

I've wondered that myself, it would be nice if the green light came on, but I think someone here mentioned before that it depends on the trailer itself, it either beeps or the light flashes. Mine beeps so I thought it was just that. Interesting about the flasher relay though....

I should really check the connections on my towbar, whereabouts is the plastic cover in the boot? Also I want to change the electric socket as the cover has broken off of it and the backing as it's snapped leaving the socket dangling. Do the wires need to be undone at the socket itself?

If its there then it will be a bunch of wires under the plastic over that goes around the boot lock pin, its usually towards the passenger side of the car. I was under the impression that all Cav's had this wiring as all mine have so far apart from the one i have at the moment (1.8 expression). In fact there is a lot of wiring missing as the fuel computer wiring is missing as well!

As previously said, if you get the towing relay then the light will work but tbh its a lot less hassel and expense just to get a beeper for the boot.
