What MPG u getting?

Post by Mikebmth »

Just been online and tried to work out what kind of MPG return I am getting on my car, on the full tank of 60 litres I am only getting about 30 MPG which is combined town and motorway driving.

Is this the normal or do I have an issue somewhere???

Just wondered what others are getting on theirs so I can compare and btw mines a 2.0i (C20NE)
Free Parking is a bonus, leaving my Cav in a carbon dust filled carpark is not.....

Peanut:

Your real-world MPG average is 57.92, covering 186 miles using 3.21 gallons of fuel.

that's pretty good.

I think my auto averages in the low to mid 30's around town, and pushes 40's on a run. I'll have to really test it one day.

If anyone's wondering how I got that calculation, this website is really useful:

It answers all your questions mpg related.

My 3 litre would do around 30mpg.

My 206GTI is showing 38.2 mpg at an average speed of 36mph over the last 3000miles

Absolutely no idea of figures, but I can tell you that the wife puts a tenner in and then complains that it's a gone after going to the roundabout at the end of the road and back!!

Alright I know women say everything twice but we heard you already....

Guess mines about average then considering its done 114000 miles and I do frequently give it some abuse when the roads are clear when I finish work late ish..

Have slowed down a lot though compared to how I used to drive, was a proper tw*t looking back at it...

I learnt how much difference it could make whilst running in a rebuilt engine when I was in my early twenties. I used to drive everywhere flat out and my mileage from a tank of fuel doubled overnight just by keeping the engine speed down. These days I drive like a grandad anyway but we had a lot of focus on fuel saving at work and apparently one big tip is to try to anticipate what is happening in front of you better and react to avoid stopping as much as you can.

My wife used to be a bus driver (yeah I know - lol),
but she taught me to look further ahead, and to allow more time to act, or prepare to act on other driver's driving style.
And also spotting idiots, who usually cause people to brake suddenly.

I sort of balance my driving between making good progress when working, to driving like an old fart when carrying the wife or passengers.

Around town is approx low 30's mpg
On the motorway, I can get anywhere between high 30's and low 50's.
This mainly depends upon the motorway, conditions, and whether climbing or on a descent.

I, to my surprise, get about 30average, over 40 on a run. I have however seen 15 litres gone in 15 miles thrashing on an airfield

Slow, boring and no sense of direction.

At the speed limit or below, considerate, aware of everything and everyone around me, and looking ahead, anticipating road conditions.

If someone gets frustrated at a safe and considerate driver, that makes them a bleeding fool. Simple. :wall And yes bleeding fools do think it's clever to wind me up and tailgate me to the point where I want to jump out and smack them straight in the nose.....

found the best way to save fuel is to speed up gradually with out punching the throttle, not exceeding 3000rpm( easy on v6)and stick to speed limits
