A Cheap/free little mod for those with a rear wiper

Post by TurboDan »

Allot of new cars these days have a nice little feature that turns the rear wiper on when you select reverse, obviosely so you can see where your going. Great idea really and would cost next to nothing to do on a cavalier.

All you would need is a wire linking the live wire for the rear wiper off the stalk to the reverse light wire at the passenger footwell/sill cover. This would work just as the new cars do, the only problem i can see is that by doing it like that you might get the reverse lights flashing on and off when the rear wiper is turned on but this could be sorted with a one way diode on the wire.

Just a random thought lol :D

nice idea there i usually click mine on anyway though and what about dry conditions how would you disable it to stop the wiper distroying itself in the dry occasions that britain is so famous for lol

Think I'll stick to the effort of clicking a finger forward an inch if the window happens to be damp!

On my Astra the front wipers need to be on for the back wiper to work when it goes in to reverse. That how Vaux stop the rear wiper going when not needed.

Hmm i have a Mercedes A-class and thats where i got the idea from but i haven't really noticed if it only does it when the front wipers are on too, it would make sense though. I'll have to check that tommorow.

i think you'll find it is the case as how else would the car know its raining otherwise your rear wiper would come on rain or shine

I don't think it would "Rip" the wiper off somehow. The 2 litre CDi engine couldn't even rip the wiper off never mind a wiper motor!

Ok blade then or at least strip the rubber off the blade, could be a nice mod if you have the front wipers on like greig suggested

That would work, and i dont think a diode would be needed either. Good work.
