How to ask for something back

Hi,
odd question for ya's!!
Ok i lent my motorbike to a good friend back in mid january, as he couldnt afford to insure the new bike he had bought. He told me it would only be for 2 weeks until he got paid and could afford to insure his new bike. I rung my insurers and added him as a named rider on my policy.
Now we are at the end of February, fuel prices at the garage i work at have gone up by 2p per litre overnight, and are going up again very soon. Running the Cav the 3ish miles to work is killing me on fuel, because the car is hardly warmed up by the time i get there. The bike would be ideal to use to pop to work on, then the Cav for bigger journeys.
I have known my mate for over 10 years, and we see eachother more than families, but i dont know how to ask him for my bike back.
Any suggestions?

BTW: Petrol is 137.9

if you are such good friends he will understand you need it to now you were very generous letting him use it in the first place

I would start with "Can I have my bike back please, as I need to use it myself now"
If he is a true friend he will understand your reasons.

Just ask for it back, it wasnt gifted to him, it was loaned. IF he can't understand that then I'd seriously re-evaluate said friendship..

TBH if you have to ask how to ask for it back then he cant be that good of a mate as there wouldn't be a problem otherwise.

As said a good mate will understand!
If he refuses... Give him a couple of weeks notice that you will inform the police of theft and take him off the insurance...

Personally if he's that good a mate I'd steal it back (literally) and when he calls you to tell you of the theft I'd tell him I'd be right there and turn up on the bike. Then tell him you need it back

surely he should pay the bill!!! its his responsibility to keep oil topped up!!!
If he can break your stuff and not offer to pay for it, i would re evaluate how good your friendship is!!!
