Prices of Modern Cars

So I AM keeping the Cavalier, it's just that I figured that it'll last longer if I don't do 18K miles a year in it and I can save £1500 a year on fuel, plus the wife's Mx5 can go back in the garage and only come out on sunny days.

My basic requirements are, a car with some credibility with a budget of £5K. (3 year payback I figure ?) Must have 5 prooper seat belts and a big boot, and I've given up looking at alfa's because I actually would like everything to work (ie I was the reliability of the cavalier)

Anyway, I was flicking through autotrader and found this 54 reg zafira tdi sri. look at the pictures. the screen price says £6999. The autotrader says £5990 and parkers says £4300.

Explain if it's even worth looking at ! Is the dealer optimistic ?

I'm off to look at an Audi A4 tomorrow. :p

Good choice. Or should I say smart choice.

China Blue 1989 Vauxhall Cavalier L 18SV
Kings Blue 1992 Vauxhall Cavalier LSi Auto C18NZ
Smoke Grey 1994 Vauxhall Cavalier V6 C25XE

Am I a light sleeper or a heavy sleeper? Well that depends on how much I've had to drink...

Smart would get 90 mpg I'm told.

I'm looking at a Honda accord estate 2.2 CDTi Tomorrow. :o

A4 was too er 'gansta', and they wouldn't move 50p on the zafira (which was nice but out of my price range-and shouldn't have been)

A lot of people knock the zafira, but it is a great car, very flexible. I have a 51 plate diesel, unfortunately the timing pump has gone west on mine which is a weakness on early ones. Alternator on the later ones as has been said is the thing to walk.

This was the decision I had to make.

Saab 1.9 Tid vs Accord 2.2 i CDTi

About £1000 difference in price, so effectively if I choose a Saab I could get a newer one, maybe 2 years newer.

Having been to see a couple of each, I decided the Honda was worth going for, so i've put a deposit on a black Exectutive (leather, cruise, etc) .

Please note that I'm still as tight as I've always been. But not as tight as Great aunty Joy. I'm spending a 1/100th share of my Late Great Aunts inheritance, a woman we all thought was so poor that she couldn't afford to get a plumber in to fix the toilet cysten, so she would carry a bucket of water up stairs to use to flush the loo.

She'd be proud of me ! think about the saving on FUEL !!!
