Its a big shame when you have to call it a day on a car due to rust

sorry to hear that m8, i'm sure if you knew someone thats pretty handy with a welder it would be fixable like,
as my black one needed a bit off work to it for its mot, as in it needed the rear chassis legs on both sides redone and the passenger side spring hanger aswell as a few other bits and pieces, jus make sure your 100% with your decision and not scrap it then think a few weeks down the line wait a minute it could have been sorted.
but the desicion lies with you and i'm sure whatever you do will be the right one bud.

Problem being it's 2 days before the MOT expiry. I can't get the car anywhere and I ain't been paid yet :(
Might just bite the bullet and leave it on the drive for now and come back to it. Seems to be little to no interest in bits - so that may well save it :cool

I know how you feel, both my Mk2 and Mk3 Cavs are being scrapped in the next few days.
Again due to the rust monster on the Mk2 but for the mk3 the list goes as follows...fuel pipes, both outer sills, cv boot split, fuel tank leak and blowing back box..gutted!! :cry

Fuel tank, and back box and replacement fuel lines I'll do for £35 if you can collect.
You could probably get the outer sills done for short of £100 unpainted, cv boot is £15 at most

Thanks for your generous offer, but I just can't get up-there at the moment.

my garage quoted about £135 per side for cutting out the old sills, and welding in the new ones properly..
He was also very concerned about the "specific" flares on the fuel lines...I got the distinct impression that he was avoiding doing that part of the job.

I would reconsider scrapping the Mk3 if he can replace the cv boot, rear exhaust box, fuel lines and tank as well as welding in two patches on the sills for now...I gave him a budget of £400 including the test fee

he can't replace the tank for that... but as per other thread call 0161 3709612, he may be able to repair the tank
