Cavalier prices seem to be creeping up.
Can only be a good thing for owners and for the survival of the remaining examples out there.

I think this has to be a new record though!

😱That’s a lot of money. Mine won’t be worth that.

It depends on trends - sadly Vauxhalls have always trailed behind Fords for resale values.

If i was going to spend silly money on a car, it would be on a Mk2 Cavalier.

A nice simple model, not the Calibre or whatever they call it.

I would love a 1300 base model saloon. Very basic, but smiles to the mile. Just like my first Vauxhall......awesome.

Always remember going car shopping with my old man, we went to look at a few car lots and there was a sparkling Mk2 cavalier commander saloon, think it was going for 425 or something, only issue was a slightly bald tire, easily rectified of course, but my dad though a rusty old sierra with patched up doors was better value as "It had better tyres". Just shows how you can lower the street cred of your son with one silly decision :) It was his money and his decision so I had to go along with it, with a poker face of course!

Talking of vx values now I wonder why fords seem to command so much more as I never felt fords were anywhere as good quality of vauxhalls, relatively speaking of course. I think it's probably just the popularity and image of them and the ford name being synonymous with driving legends and historical references/motorsport. The early 80s fords were a bit better quality but about 86 onwards they were awful again, until about early 90s they were a bit better again, although a lot left to be desired by the early mk5 escort, a truly horrible car. I remember the differences as I served my time in a ford dealership.

Ford had that rally and race car thing that vauxhall never seemed to have.

The facelift sierra was a much nicer car than the cavaier of the same age.

Don't underestimate the influence of the motoring press either. One popular TV presenter in particular has always been very critical of Vauxhalls.

I'm with you Rob, I'd love to have a Mk2 hatchback 1.3 L, in polar white preferably! Exactly what my dad used to have.
I would love a GSi or SRi because they are different from what I own, but I'm done with the high end models. So much harder to look after than the low spec cars.
Chrome bumper inserts, metallic/pearlescent paint, air con that doesn't want to get fixed and impossible to find unique parts.
Give me a 1.6 LS any day!

The later sierras were a lot better, felt more well put together and less plasticy and had the dohc engines, which were much better than the rattly pintos. Don't know how many times changed compliance bushes on them, so common a problem, but dead easy to change. The frogeye scorpio was also a really nice car, pity no one liked them thought they looked alright.

I travelled to Birmingham NEC for the Practical Classics show as this car was due to be auctioned there by CCA that weekend. I had intentions of bidding on it but the guy withdrew it last minute 😭 £18k is a bit strong tho, I paid less for the ex-Barry Butler 27k minter
