Stondon Motor Museum to close. Cars to be auctioned.
This might be of interest to those members who attended the Eastern Region meet at Stondon Motor Museum a year or two ago.

That's a shame. I really enjoyed that meet up.
We needs to plan some more for this year.
I was thinking of arranging one to go and see the HMS Cavalier at the Chatham historical dockyard.

HMS Cavalier at the Chatham historical dockyard - would be cool to organise a photo shoot in front of it! The docks might be up for that.

I like the sound of that.
Incidentally, all cars from the Stondon collection are being sent to auction with no reserve. Bound to be some real bargains to be had.

Hahaha, I did mention the Mk1 SR to Mrs Humbucker, but she was less than impressed with the idea. They had a few Rollers at Stondon too. In fact, they're open this weekend for the final time. Perhaps we should catalogue everything in their stock, hehe!iangsi wrote:Who's going to buy their 4x4 cavalier then or the mk1 astra 1.6 SR ?
They had an XJS iirc. I wouldn't mind that. Obviously, James McGrath has his heart set on the Lagonda.

I've been told that I have too many cars already with no where to store them !humbucker wrote:Hahaha, I did mention the Mk1 SR to Mrs Humbucker, but she was less than impressed with the idea. There are allot of cars in there I would like to bid on. The Lagonda being one of them.
There was a couple of Triumph stags, Rover P5, P6 and SD1, the Jaguar XJS you mentioned, a Ford Capri, Lancia Beta, BMW 2002, of course the Cavalier 4x4 and many others.
But I think the car I'd have my eye on was the Vauxhall Carlton GSi

I bet it goes for peanuts. Most of those cars will have expired MOTs. The GSi3000 was parked up next to a Vauxhall Viceroy. Only seven of those left iirc. The first car I ever drove was a Viceroy. Cost my Dad £25 out of the scrapyard! Served us well for many years.James McGrath wrote:But I think the car I'd have my eye on was the Vauxhall Carlton GSi.

Sad to hear the museum is closing, I only hope the cars are won by responsible bidders and live to be displayed or run again. If you know when the auction is going on, let me know!

That's not the same car as the Stondon collection's example. I think the Stondon car is a white F-reg (probably a 12-valver).Super89 wrote:White Carlton GSI on ebay atm. Its on £6000

Apparently, cars donated to the museum will be offered back to their owners before auction. All stock owned by the museum, however, will definitely be going to auction.

That's good to hear and the right thing to do.Apparently, cars donated to the museum will be offered back to their owners before auction.
Think the Carlton is a donated vehicle and I believe it's done about 200k miles so even, if it went to auction, might not be the best long-term buy.

The auction was today. Some of the collection and hammer prices can be seen here:

Most of those went far too cheaply.humbucker wrote:The auction was today. Some of the collection and hammer prices can be seen here:

Yeah, there were some crackers there. When Maracus asked me if we should go down to check it out (I responded by telling him that was a terrible idea because I was bound to come back with something!) I did cast an eye over the Jensen Interceptor that was up for grabs. I think it fetched a decent wedge, although still half of what book price has a running/good example down as being worth.James McGrath wrote:Most of those went far too cheaply.humbucker wrote:The auction was today. Maracus was keen to spend "£100 on a Mk1 Fiesta", although I can't say that I remember one of those being in the catalogue!
