I've been thinking about a Vauxhall Carlton for some time now.

2.6 Diplomat or CDX would be fantastic.

Dunno if the pic of the red one was taken in sunny old Yorkshire but I'd like to know what he did to the paintwork to get it looking so nice. I've always understood that red was not the most permanent of colours so what works with red should work with white (north of Yorkshire) also.

Plenty of elbow grease I'd imagine. And a garage to keep it in.

Looks like its just a good picture to me. Under the trees with the sun behind it.

As andrei said just allot work put in and keep it polished regularly, the more you polish it the easier it will get.

Seem to remember there was a previous thread we did on people's experiences and opinions of polishes, which to go for and which were just over-priced marketing toothpastes. I doubt that you always get what you pay for with the possible exception of elbow grease in 1L tubs.

Traditionally, red paint/ink - whether it be on a car, a billboard, a phone box - does not reflect UV light like other hues. The result of this is that red paint tends to 'pink' and lacquer can peel very easily. See how many Sky Sports banners nailed to pubs have a pink (or barely visible) half-logo! Technology moves on, of course, and I have no doubt that modern red paints fare a lot better than they used to.

Joe can let us into the secret of the everlasting red paint. Sky would no doubt be interested to know also.

Do a good stretch, work the arms a bit, get your thing out, give it a bit of spit, and work her away.. Keep going, don't stop until you start crying from the pain, and make sure you wipe off the white residue :D Job done.

I'll have a look for the Poorboys stuff but hope I can spare myself the pain. I would have put the wax on first followed by the glaze but no doubt there is a reason to do it the other way round.

Some "random" chat ...
