For a petrolhead who earns his bread and butter by writing about cars, I've had surprisingly few motors in my time (and of those that I have owned, I've ended up with multiple examples of the same model(s)!). I don't know if that makes the joy of hunting out and buying a new motor more exciting than if I'd have owned a gazillion cars, but this past weekend I laid down the deposit on another retro ride. If all goes to plan, I'll be picking it up this weekend. I'm not going to let the cat out of the bag just yet, but I'll be sure to post pictures as soon as I've got the new arrival safely home and have given her/it a good clean. Suffice to say, I'm bouncing off the walls. The weekend can't come soon enough!

Unsurprisingly, I may be parting with one of my Cavalier Turbos to make room for the new car (I can't justify another project without letting one go). Fret not, as this will still leave me with two. I'm just not sure which one to part with atm. I guess it depends on how deep prospective buyer's pockets are.

I know the feeling mate, I've only owned 8 cars to date, the V6 being my latest, but the prospect of getting behind the wheel of another car is always exciting to me, especially when I intend to buy it. To me it's a new beginning, new project etc.

Exactly that. The excitement of hunting out the car, and the awesomeness of actually claiming the eventual 'winner' as your own. The plans you begin to put together in your head, how you're gonna personalise and improve on what you've bought. There can be few more thrilling moments in a petrolhead's life than getting the keys to his/her new motor, hehe!

Exciting stuff. So no clues on the next addition to the ornament collection.

I'm gonna guess either some classic Manta or a Lotus or something... I would say a 600 Grosser but they're a bit pricey

I work from home, which means that I don't actually do all that much driving tbh. The missus does more miles than I do these days! There's no real 'need' to have the cars up and running while I work on them, although I'd be lying if I said that it wasn't a royal PITA shifting them about when they're without their engines and gearboxes etc. I get a lot of enjoyment out of tinkering, and the driving that I do undertake tends to be of the 'lengthy journey' variety (mainly work related stuff) and in Cavalier Turbo #1. I'll admit that my projects have been slow going these past couple of years - primarily down to an immense workload - but what's the rush?! I've got two cars on the road at any one time, and that's fine by me.

It's what ever suits you pal.

I didn't think you were criticising, but I can see why you might think 'why buy another car when you don't appear to use the ones that you've already got', hehe! It doesn't help that I can only post progress reports after they're out of print, making my online project threads seem even slower than they actually are, but I'll post regular updates on the new car fo' sho' (this project will only be in print every now and again). Well, that's the plan anyway. Roll on Saturday!

p.s. it's not a DeLorean, although I will be in need of a flux capacitor to help me travel back in time to when petrol prices were significantly lower than they are today...
