Mot exempt for cars 30years and over.

Post by btcctroy »

With my brother being an mot inspector he has informed that VOSA are planning to abolish the need for MOTs on cars 30 years or over.
This however doesn't mean that another more stringent test will be put in place.
I personally think that a structural test may be introduced as another money making exercise

MOT's can be expensive and annoying but I've realized ages ago that they are important. While cost saving will be huge for classic car owners, with the tax-exempt thing too, unless you visually inspect the car yourself and know what to look for, you can't be sure that it's roadworthy.

As you say though I bet there will be some sort of inspection by some agency.

The mot is a basic safety test of a vehicle, which is more oriented for the modern car.
It wouldn't surprise me an sva type test could be introduced which would be hell for general older cars.
As it stands its very easy to get a car through an mot unless you have rust issues. Simply Joints, brakes, lights

I can see there being alot of accidents due to poor maintanance of older cars then they will hike the insurance up and that will price them off the roads

They could abolish it, but would probably be replaced with something else as I cannot believe the government would pass up the opportunity to let money fall through their hands.
