Things you've made

Post by btcctroy »

Well I thought I'd start a thread on things that you have made by yourselves.
It can be pretty much anything.
So I'll start, I like making things and my latest was to buy a microwave transformer. I removed the 7500volt secondary winding and installed a new low voltage step down winding. Produces in excess of a 100amp at 1volt. I'm guessing it's around 500amp
So will make a good spot welder, weld on slide hammer

Cool, so the thick wire acts as the electrode then.. Does the cable not melt?

I have a perversion for clocks and watches. love em, lots of em. Also due to what i get up to at work I do a fair bit of precision wiring, soldering and micro engineering and I am fascinated by things that are both new and old looking at the same time, so in the winter when the garage is a tad cold, I built 2 Nixie tube clocks.

First one was a GPS controlled one like this from PV Electronics -
http://www.pvelectronics.co.uk/index.ph ... cts_id=146
learnt the ropes and then -

Second one is a one off with russian nixie indicator tubes, built into a gutted MK8 AVO multimeter, GPS or Radio controlled, lots of fun -

Looks like a very good job on the wooden house, that's the sort of stuff we do for a living down here, building, chippy etc. Tricky to get right, every job has it's fiddly bits!
