Severe storm on it's way

Post by Cavalier342 »

Wish I had a garage  Cars are gonna get coated in leaves and crap, on the plus side I do love storms so I might head down to the harbor later to feel the wind in my hair, as they say. :thumb

Getting really gusty down here in Hampshire.

the law of sod of course sees me working in the garage out of the rain, on the very cheap red cav - while my very shiny and expensive Monaro sits on my friends drive in the New Forest, having moved it to make some room, waiting for a roof tile or tree to fall on it. ffs.

To be honest, the forecast is so vague as the MET office are barely saying anything above 46mph winds, its the Bbc and other national forecasts that are blowing the whole thing up.

Tonight is meant to be the worst part of it but we'll see, I saw the 1988 storm hit our house when I was a kid so it'll have to be pretty extreme to beat that one!
Free Parking is a bonus, leaving my Cav in a carbon dust filled carpark is not.....

The wind is picking up down here in East Sussex too.

Quite worried about falling tiles with the cars on the driveway.

At least the CD auto is safe, that's no here at the moment.

wind has died down here but theres a little rain. im all preped for wind anyway got the top chopped out of the scraggy old tree in my garden and the fence braced seen as nextdoor can't be bothered to repair it seen as it's their fence so my cav astra and novavan should be safe

Still howling here. Got a huge 60 ft conifer tree out front, bit of a concern but nobody wants to do anything about it... typical.

Gail is a character on coronation street, wind speed is a measurement of how fast you have to go to catch the ten pound note that you dropped, lol

I think the ocean passed me this morning at work, some proper rain!!

Wind speed is the average consistent speed of air movement over an area, gales, or gust speed is what the air speed is predicted to or recorded as at it's highest point. So an average wind speed of say 30 knots, can gust to 50 knots in extreme cases. But only briefly.

Set off in search of the eye of the tornado, like a scene from Twister! Missed us completely, just another wet day :/

A fortnight before was more devastating when the branches off of one of my trees fell on top of one of the Omegas. Not good. Fortunately, had the tree surgeon over to chop everything back in advance of this latest bout of Platt-fever.

The storm was a bit of an anti-climax here.

I thought we were in for some trouble as we live behind a row of 100+ year old Oak trees.

The sound of the wind howling kept me awake most of the night and we had a few temporary power cuts, but that was about it.

Total sum of the damage caused:

The scuttle panel of my V6 looked more like a botanical garden earlier, cleared out 99% of the leaves now. Wouldn't be such a pain if they were normal leaves, like in James' photo. No they have to be conifer leaves, about the most annoying leaves on the planet. Stick in every little gap they can find  Still salty stains on the car from the in-blown seawater, need to clean it really but it's laid up for another week yet so won't bother yet.

not too bad here. I need 1 new 6ft fence panel out of the 2 I "own" around my property, but it was utterly bolloxed anyway, so it wasn't unexpected that most of it is in the neighbours garden to the right hand side.
the other side of the garden at the bottom near my garage, one panel of my other neighbours fence blew away into his own unkept garden, but it was also well tired and he sorted that somehow, before I even got home from work on Monday pm.
the Monaro which is on it's holidays 1q0 miles away resting in my mates garden in the New Forest survived fine. a few leaves on it I'm told. not so much his trees and the BT phone lines which are still all on the deck with a tree wrapped round em, all well away from my shiny paintwork and the V8 loveliness..get it back soon when I have welded up the red cav for the winter.
