New Bloke, Old Car...

Howdy!

Finally got around to looking for a Cav owners club, and looks like I found it. So yes, I suppose I should get on with explaining the wagon involved then?

I'm the proud owner of a rather battle-worn but servicable MK3 1.7TD Cav, L Reg. I've heard it identified as an 'Ethos', but I haven't managed to drag up any information on this particular model, if it even existed. Formerly a reps car, it has pretty much all mod cons for it's time bar air con, which is no great loss. A rather fetching metallic dark blue (expect where the wing mirrors decided a while back they'd rather be paint free somehow), it has it's little bubbles of rust here and there, and can usually be found sitting under a layer of dust and/or leaves. The engine is a little (lot) worn, and sounds more tractor-like than a lot of tractors I've passed on the road, but still has the grunt when I ask it (nicely, of course. She IS an old girl...)

It's slowly getting to the point where I'm looking at a rather interesting battle trying to stop bits falling off or going wrong, so this is what brings me here. I'm looking to scour the combined brains of the more knowlegeable people here, obtain spares and generally get the lump back into top working condition. So, if there are any Cav owners in the Guildford or surrounding areas, then get in touch!

Aye, I'll get some pics of the Old Girl up when I next have a day off to do some proper photos. I'm going to keep an eye out for any meets in the local-ish area too, would be great to have a chat with other owners.

Alas, being a night-shift railway worker, weekends are something of a special treat for me. I might try and blag something, but otherwise I'll just have to keep my ear to the ground (and less out the drivers window, worrying about a possible leaking exhaust...)

welcome to the friendliest car site out there , sounds like a cav with a hard life , but there good for it , get stuck in to the jobs 1 at a time and you will be surprised at how soon it comes together , a good wash and wax and you will be in love again

Although I do whack it through the car wash now and then (Oh, don't look at me like that... the paint isn't as good as it used to be anyway). I'll try and do it one job at a time, but where the hell to begin, is the problem.

Also, to Lowrider Dave... Alrighty! Southampton isn't hard to get to from here, and although I can't make the gathering this weekend, I might look into sorting out time for any future ones. At least, I'd like someone to have a gander at the old lump, to see exactly what DOES need doing to it, and give me some idea of where to start.
