Cheers. I'll find out in about an hour. I'm just waiting for the train to take me on the last leg of the journey to fetch it.iangsi wrote:Hello & Welcome car doesn't look in to bad a condition.

Nice one! Are those Mk2 Astra SXi wheels? How far have you had to travel for the car?

Re: New member from Birmingham
Well, I've picked it up.
there are a couple of things the seller omitted to mention in the advert but it's nothing that can't be sorted out over time (cash depending ) but I'm a happy bunny as it drives lovely.
The items i need to get sorted are as follows
*Tracking - I'm taking it to be sorted tomorrow
* Heater blower doesn't work - Hopefully just a fuse
* Airbag light is on - Help please as I'm useless with electrics
*Passenger front door doesn't unlock with central locking - New solenoid provided by seller
NOW ON TO THE IMPORTANT THINGS
*there's no stereo
*the clock is 5 hours fast
*there's a spider living behind the drivers wing mirror
All in all for less than £460 I'm not complaining but could do with some advice on the blower and airbag light.

Welcome to our forum. From what you describe, the one thing that would worry me the most is the 8 legged resident in the mirror... I've had one crawl in before when I was driving with the window down from the mirror casing, needless to say, the nearside indicator came on pretty damn fast.
Good luck with getting the niggly things sorted, I'm sure you'll have it up-together soon.
The heater fan, well open the bonnet, pull up the scuttle panel, where the long rubber seal is that runs along the top of the bulkhead, you'll see the motor inside. Wiggle the wiring connector to see if it's that, if it's not the fuse of course. Could be a dodgy connection, could be the resistor that's gone. New resistor packs are difficult to find, but you can get an 80p resistor from any electronics store and crimp it onto your resistor pack to solve that issue.

Don't worry too much about electrics..
Most Cav electrics are quite simple.
Not like modern boxes of electronics.
I think even your engine is quite low tech -
As in not too much electrics to deal with.

I've just put another thread up

You can always ask -
I am not an auto electrician, but I can usually find out most stuff, if I haven't already dealt with something similar before.

Re: New member from Birmingham
All sorted out now.
Alternator belt and power steering belt have been changed and airbag light is now off.
It was showing due to irregularities in voltage caused by alternator problems and slipping/missing belts

That's great news...
Just the radio and the brakes left to do then
They are pretty robust and reliable with the occasional application of T.L.C.

Brakes are fine and radio all fitted.Robsey wrote:That's great news...

Tracking is being done tomorrow and then that just leaves the central locking as it doesn't operate the passenger side front door unless the key is in the passenger side lock (then it all works fine.)
I was told this was the solenoid so I've got a second hand one which I'm hoping will fit
Once all the problems are fixed I'm going to get the timing belt changed as it's been 9 years since the last one was done.
Until I can afford that I'll be doing little bits to the interior such as the ashtray flap doesn't fold down as all the ashtray is loose.
Then I'll eventually be looking for a replacement green bonnet as mine has lacquer peel
All in all I'm really happy with it and love driving it

That looks nice.
I need to start tidying my bodywork up soon (and the cavs)
