Re: My Cav Motorsport

Sorry to hear you're selling, even sorrier to hear that it's because of the ULEZ.

I sincerely hope that no ULEZ makes it's way down as far as Robertsbridge!

Looks like fun, I'd like to go. I'll have to think about it closer to the time though.

Re: Bedford Astravan MK2

Holy moley!
That rear beam is terrifying.
It's probably one of the strongest components on the car so that's some serious rot for it to crack like that.

Some amazing wok going into this :thumb

Could you not just disconnect the battery for a bit?

I've got a Tech1 and would happily clear the code for you. You are a bit far away from me though!

Installing Fuel lines

So I've been replacing quite a few fuel lines recently. First, the big 11.5mm one on the CD auto went, then one on the underside of the V6 and recently one in the engine bay of Lizzie's CD. I'm pretty sure this doesn't have anything to do with E10 petrol, as the first two of these happened before it...

Ah, OK. The last time I spoke to Nick I think he was considering leaving it to a museum. I guess that never came to fruition. As Robsey says, history is my passion but also my profession. I work as a Conservator for the National Trust. (basically I look after the collection) So my natural instinct i...

I really don't want to be negative as you've obviously put in a lot of effort but I'm not sure how enthusiastic I can get about this project. I believe that this car used to belong to one of our members about 5 or 6 years ago. It was one of the only police Cavaliers left and certainly the most intac...

Re: A note about catalytic converters

Going by the failure of the ECC cat James do you think it's better sticking with the BM type approved one? My mot on my 1.8 is due in Nov and the only thing I've never renewed is the cat, I tried substituting the 1.8 cat with the one off my diplomat, and I think that was an aftermarket repalcement ...

Re: Rear Springs difference ?

It's probably a slight revision done to the spring rate. One might be slight stiffer than the other. Vauxhall continually tweeked the suspension over the entire production run. There are literally hundreds of part numbers for different springs, shock absorbers and anti-roll bars. Sometimes they had ...

Re: Stuff we've seen on the road

Spotted this Volvo 440 GLE yesterday. Injection with a catalyser no less! Looked quite tidy to start with. I followed it for a bit and saw/heard the rear back box was loose and the suspension looked a bit lopsided. Still, nice to see. https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/k554/James_Michael_McGrath...

I quite like the Nissan Cube. Not my personal idea of a good looking car and I wouldn't want one for myself but I commend Nissan for selling something different.

Re: James' 1993 Cavalier LS

Anyway, new gasket ordered. Annoyingly there are 2 listed on EPC4, 90345227 and 90345226. Both seem to be exactly the same so I've ordered 90345226. Sod's law it will probably be the wrong one, time will tell. As for oil, can't seem to find any of the original stuff listed in the owners manual (part...

Are there two types of F13?
Seems like the F13 on the Corsa was for the small block engines. :scratch

Completed a 700 mile round trip in the ol' girl last week. Went to Newcastle and back to see some friends and pick up some parts from Gary. She ran very well with no problems at all. Managed to average 45mpg over the whole trip, slightly lower than I was expecting (personal best is 54.3mpg in this c...

Re: E10 petrol

Will we still be able to put e10 in my c20xe I've merged your thread with this one as I think it's mostly been covered here already. Basically, it will run and you can use it but we will have to wait and see if there are any side effects that emerge. At the moment, the best you can do is keep an ey...

Thank you :D

I've always loved the pre-facelift CDs.
They really stand out, especially these days.

This car was a total indulgence when we bought it. As soon as we saw it we had to have it.

Re: Fuel tank to pump hose

Just for future reference, I used a 12mm hose as I couldn't find an 11.5mm one. Fitted perfectly but a note of warning, it's longer than it looks. I bought 90cm thinking that it would be plenty but it only just fitted on. An inch shorter and it wouldn't have gone on. So you really need a full meter ...

Re: Mike and James' 1990 CD Auto

Thanks Rob :thumb I really do wish I could keep them all in garages. I feel like I'm not really looking after them as well as I should. Just had a totally disastrous MOT on my Dad's CD manual; lots of unexpected rust. Considering it was totally rust free when we got it, it's very upsetting. :cry I d...

I've seen a few different techniques like this before. Didn't know you could do it with just plain salt and vinegar though.

Re: James' 1993 Cavalier LS

It's annoying that an otherwise very good garage is ruined by one member of staff. It's also the closest garage to my home so was quite convenient. I've now started using kwik fit for MOTs. It's about 25 minutes away compared to only 10 for the other one but everyone there seems very good at what th...

Re: A note about catalytic converters

Absolutely, and considering the events of the last 18 months it has only really had one full year of use. It does make me suspect that the car is over-fueling somehow and destroying the cat. It's running perfectly though, doesn't have any petrol smells and has been very good on fuel. As in the photo...
