Re: Bedford Astravan MK2

I can feel for you. When I first purchased this Van I genuinely thought it would be about 6months, just sills, rear arches, a pair of wings and a few other little patches. Little did I know... Now getting towards five years later I still feel like I've a mountain to climb before its finished. It's ...

Re: M Plate 1.8LS Saloon

I ended up taking the cable off the other end at the bottom of the airbox next to the clutch pedal. Bit of a faff pulling it through to the other end but saved me taking that metal clip thingy off. I've now got the dash, airbox and wiper motor out so plenty of progress over the last couple of days. ...

Re: M Plate 1.8LS Saloon

Cheers Robsey, will have a look at this when I get back from a small break away this week. Hopefully enough recuperation for me to get some more wind in my sails and get on with removing the rest of it!

Re: Matts CDX - Work In Progress.

I seen one here in Finland but it's 160 Euros though so pricey but looks to be new. https://www.tori.fi/uusimaa/836719_imuilmaletku_Opel_107087337.htm Thanks, I'm impressed you found that, what a price! The paint-pen makes me think it's used, it looks a bit aged :scratch Having exhausted duckduckgo...

Re: Vauxhall Senator

It's a really tricky bit this to fabricate and you have to remember the door pillar is going down across it as well so needs to be fairly matched up to that. I'm not at that bit yet, got the side tower panel made yesterday from the template, lots of fettling and final fettle will be when it's being ...

Re: My VERY RUSTY VW T25 Camper Van Project

Typical the last bolt on the driveshaft gave in, never fancied talking those types of shafts, looks the same on omega with 6 allen bolts. Hope I don't ever have to remove them! That grease is horrible stuff as well, I remember getting that in my hands years ago before the gloves came on the scene. M...

Re: Vauxhall Senator

You're right about being scary cutting out all this metal. Don't know why I do it sometimes :thumb Been offering up all these sections around about the bulkhead side and floor sections trying to get everything nice and neat. I have now recreated the new upper floor section with the big hole drilled ...

Re: M Plate 1.8LS Saloon

I've now got all the parts listed above including the illustrious headlamp panel, pricey but original GM. Pic below: https://photos.app.goo.gl/VYLmCqFQHR3VBAg2A The front panel was also quite expensive considering it was a copy panel made in Taiwan or somewhere like that. Granted it looks ok but you...

Re: Vauxhall Senator

Well, I finally got round to getting this cut off panel and removing the dashboard side panel from it. I think I drilled out about 40 or 50 (Probably more) spot welds to remove the inner sill section, then the door pillar post, and there are some braces for the door hinges that join to the door pill...

Re: M Plate 1.8LS Saloon

Today's job, I'm not wanting to get covered in grime as going out later, so decided to start stripping the dash out, can't get too mucky doing that right? This is so I can fix the bulkhead rust properly, need the dash, well really the air box, out of the way. Does anyone know how to unclip this bowd...

Re: M Plate 1.8LS Saloon

It is quite bad, i'm sure I could poke a few more holes in it along the top section, and where I couldn't it's that flaky pastry stuff. I guess as it's a kind of hidden part and gets all the weather hitting it that's why it's in such a nick, plus any water leaks and condensation from rad coming down...

Re: M Plate 1.8LS Saloon

Well it looked like the decision to buy a new front member was a good one, the one on mine is rotten as a pear, especially below the N/S below the radiator. i've been stripping the front end down in prep for removing engine, and it looks like the front panel has seen better days too, might try and s...

Either he is huge - (size of an outdoor s#!7-house).
Or that car is quite small.

Re: M Plate 1.8LS Saloon

I recently bought a refurbished "Vectra A" rear axle from a place in Germany, where I had also got a refurb'd front subframe. The subframe looked really well done, looked like a new subframe for all intents and purposes and was happy with it, so had no quams getting the rear axle. When I l...

Re: Bedford Astravan MK2

I had one of those mornings when almost nothing seemed to go right! Firstly I thought i'd strip the remains of the old struts down so I could salvage the hubs and the backing plates. This is when the problems started, after the discs and calipers coming off reasonably ok, on the first hub that I re...

I've got a hatch parcel shelf spare, it's practically mint. I stripped it off that cavy I got wind of a few years back because it was mint.

Re: M Plate 1.8LS Saloon

Timing belt replacement on the V6 is a bit of a performance because, with 4 camshaft sprockets, 2 idler pulleys and a tensioner pulley to go round, it's huge! I've managed to do it on my V6 without the special tools and camshaft locking pieces, but it's easier (though still time-consuming) with the...

Good to see some recomissioning work going on there, plenty to keep you going. The plastic shield around the motor, was yours broken? i know mine has a broken collar for the clamp screw, one of them protrudes higher than the other one, and I couldn't fully tighten it, but I plastered it with sealant...

. What do you do when you're working down low / on ground 3cav3? No cartilage sounds sore? It has its moments when I can't get down low. Most the time I can get by with a knee brace. For being underneath my van I tend to try and lie on some padding. I was told in 2006 by the consultant to get an of...

If only I'd realised about this off cut part it would have saved me so much time mucking about with a repair panel then having to do it again and not getting anywhere! Every day a school day. Shipping was about 50 'Euros so a bit pricey but more or less what you would expect with DHL. What do you do...

Took advantage of the long weekend and the sun and got a wee bit of work done on the senny. I'm still nursing a crooked knee so I'm really limited in what I can do at the moment, like kneeling, it was a bit better at the wkend so put my big chunky knee pads on and got some welding done on the unders...

Re: Bedford Astravan MK2

One thing that Ive always been aware of is how worn the ignition Key is. This combined with screwdriver damage to a couple of locks and odd keys led me years ago to purchase a new matching lock set. Whilst I was playing under the dash I thought i may aswell replace the ignition barrel. - Just a wor...

The threads on the bottom of the mount that goes into subframe snap easily, so watch that. If you're replacing though it shouldn't matter, just if you're removing mount.
