Re: 3.0 V6 Cav

Replaced the damper ring on the gearstick and shimmed the bottom clevis to take up some of the freeplay.Found the damper ring was split in two, no wonder the gearstick was like stirring custard. And finally gave it a wash because the scrapyard is up a long mud and puddle covered lane. http://i74.ph...

Re: 3.2 v6 conversion

I used a 2.5 vec, dont know if they are different? I now have a 3litre omega, slightly better top end power.i guess you could use the 3.2 manifold, would have to modify it from fbw to manual throttle though. what gearbox you planning using? I don't know. How would i modify it to manual? Ive got an ...

Re: 3.2 v6 conversion

I wouldnt use a cav inlet manifold, the ports would be too small for a 3.2, they certainly are for a 3 litre. swopping from the cav to a vectra type I picked up over 40hp at 6500rpm. The 2.6 vectra inlet? Anything else worth swapping over? I used a 2.5 vec, dont know if they are different? I now ha...

Re: 3.0 V6 Cav

Finally got around to fitting new wishbones and front dampers yesterday. Bit sad that both the konis have been hosing oil out, not sure it they can be serviced or how much this would cost. Had to replace with basic non adjustable KYB. All went to plan apart from one seized track rod adjuster. Did no...

Re: 3.2 v6 conversion

The theory is you use everything from a cavalier v6. But use the heads, and block from the 3.2 So you need cavalier inlets, exhaust manifolds, sump. etc etc I wouldnt use a cav inlet manifold, the ports would be too small for a 3.2, they certainly are for a 3 litre. swopping from the cav to a vectr...

Re: What's your best MPG

The 3 litre normally averages around 30 mpg,not bad for 200+ hp I didn't think.
Long gearing of the F25 gearbox helps a lot.

For comparison, just done 750 miles in the 206 GTI (2 litre 140 hp) at an average of 39mpg

GTI mpg

Just got back from a weeks holiday in cornwall, went in the Pug as the mrs wont drive the V6. did 770 miles averaged 39mpg, which I thought was fairly good as it included the 2 runs up and down the M5 & A30 at 70-80 mph. Mrs drove all the way back last night, Rock to Rugby 264 miles in 4hrs 15mi...

http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i253/iancav6/CopyofCav006.jpg This is my set up. What are you going to do to get the twin TB inlets into one? As you can see I had a Y piece made, joined to the TB with Samco hose. Its all a bit tight for space where the two hoses spigot onto the TB,I had to carefull...

Re: 3.0 Supercav!

Whats your plan for the icv?I see you have cut the std boss out.
I blanked mine off, made an ally block and welded it on the rear of the plenum above cyl5.
You will need a longer servo pipe,I got one off an old corsa,1.2 iirc, perfect size and bends.

Re: How do you use your manual choke ?

If you have too much choke it will start chugging , if left it could flood the engine and cut out. if not enough choke it will not respond to the throttle, ie it will hesitate. procedure for starting a flooded engine is, push the choke in fully, press the throttle to the floor, crank the engine unti...

Re: Racking up the miles

The V6 is on 229k now, its taken me almost 10 years to add 75k miles to it.
At the current rate it will take another 3 years or so to reach 1/4 million miles.

Exactly the same happened to the V6 a few years ago, fitted a new tank from Hadrian.
Had a drama with the tank retaining straps being rusty, couldn't buy any new ones so made some instead.

Re: Road trip

Are you kidding me? I've been in a lot of modern cars and my V6 beats them all hands down for comfort... Even my old manual hatchback with the soft seats was just as nice.... The seats are comfy enough, its the ride and the noise that are the issue. As much as i hate to say it, the gti is much nicer...

Re: Those films that just sort of stay in your mind....

One film that really gripped me was United 93,the last 10 mins or so when its about to crash.

On the opposite tack, what films do you think are overrated?

One film I think I should like but can't stand is The Blues Brothers.

Whats the longest its taken you to do the simplest of jobs on your Cav? How about 8 years to fit a door mirror? Before we moved house 8 years ago the local hoods smashed the drivers mirror off the V6 and broke some of the retaining brackets but it just about fitted back on.Finally picked a new mirro...
