Re: Failed the MOT

First port of call for me, depending on the engine in question would be to check and clean the spark plugs if required, and give it a good clear out down the nearest national speed limit road. Carbon is basically soot so it might well be that it just needs a good run. It's not a drastic fail though...

Failed the MOT

Hi all, Hope you are all well and enjoying the weather. The cavalier went for it's mot today and failed on the emissions on the carbon: 0.84 where the limit is 0.20. Does anyone have the knowledge of how to bring the emissions down. One of the people at the garage said that it's to do with unburnt f...

Astra mk4 wheel size?

Hi there, This week I picked up a mk4 astra at a good price, to learn and get my manual license (not to replace the cavalier). I was wondering if anyone knows what size wheels and tyres it should have on it as at the moment there are different tyre sizes and possibly the wrong steels. Its the 1.6 5d...

Re: Top end

Flush your lifters. and check the cam for wear. My old 1.8 sounded like this and it was due to poor servicing that caused the lifters to stick / gum up and where down the cam. Hmm, ok. do you reckon this stuff would do the trick? http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_100...

Re: Top end

Re: Top end

If the timing is set, then that's not your tapping issue.. Could be the hydraulic valve lifters have dirt under them or something. Been told that's a giveaway if that happens. I would recommend flushing the engine oil, draining it, re-filling it with cheap oil, flushing it again, and put good stuff...

Re: Top end

Hi there. Just had the water pump/cam belt replaced which had got rid of the rattling from the pump, However the tapping noise is there more. I've been told that this is timing, how could I sort the timing out? As apparently the markers on both the crank and cam pulleys are lined up correctly etc? C...

Re: Top end

Hmm - rattling from the top end.. If you are sure it is the top end - I would consider that your tappets are not pressurised properly. Looking at the picture I presume that your engine is a C18Nz. So questions are - Have you got enough oil in the sump,? Is it a long time since the last service / oi...

Top end

Hi there, Ive noticed that my engine is a bit rattly and that it taps a bit. Someone has told me that it is the top end tapping and that something needs lining up or adjusting, and something to do with the crank if I remember correctly. If anyone knows what needs doing and how it is done i'd really ...

Cavalier342 wrote:Unless I'm mistaken, GL is the same as GLS for face-lift models, in which case it'll be mid-spec, CD very similar but maybe a few more toys, depending on engine. I believe heated seats were fitted to CDX and upwards.
Okay, do you know if a 2ltr 8v engine would be single or multi point injection?

GL vs CD Specs

Hi all,
Was wondering what the difference in spec is between the CD and GL models? Would it have air con, heated seats etc? and would it have electric windows all round and sun roof?

Cheers

The cavalier was long overdue it's service so yesterday (whilst replacing two broken rear springs), It received a gearbox and engine oil change and the difference in driving it has been incredible so far, have been doing wheel spins unintentionally when setting off through normal driving which goes ...

Re: Cavalier speakers

Hi there, To fit the front speakers the Astra/vectra mounting adaptors from places like halfords etc fit correctly for the cavalier. Just replaced my front speakers and is a great improvement over the stock speakers. Ive not bothered personally with the rear speakers as I just turned the fader so th...

I did a paper clip test but don't seem to be giving me any info. Here's a clip of what it did.

Re: Running rough

1.8i clean the iac, check the egr is closed and remove and plug the vacuum pipe, have a spray around the inlet with some carb cleaner or brake cleaner to check for a manifold gasket leak. There are other things but these would be the first to look at. Assuming it is an injection then it will store ...

Re: Running rough

Hi there, The fuel filter was changed around this time last year. Yeah it's a 1.8 gli auto 92 prefacelift version. Apparently the ecu on these do not store fault codes only when the light is on will it show up the fault. Is this correct? The idling issue isn't majorly bad just hovers slowly up and d...

Re: Best way of fitting front door speakers?

Kind of yeah. On my old turbo i fitted astra front speakers into it and they fitted but the hole in the door was slightly to small so i trimmed the plastic off the back of the speaker. So i reckon mk4 astra adapters would fit fine. Ok. Yes I'm using the mk4 Astra/Vectra adapters. The problem is the...

I went to halfords and got door pods that fit. Only problem is that the hole in the door that the back of the speaker goes into it too small. Did you or anyone else come across this problem?

Best way of fitting front door speakers?

Hi there, Firstly I'd like to wish you all a merry christmas, and hope that you have had a great day so far. I managed to get some speakers for the cavalier for christmas and was wondering what would be the best way to fit them. To buy adapters and fit them in the same place that the stock speakers ...
