Re: Fit a fuel computer?

Link to Ian Tills site http://www.abs-zero.com/Vauxhall_computers.htm A trip computer from any Cav / Calibra can be fitted to your Cav (I believe that the Carlton / Senetor ones have different surrounds so I would avoid them), the memory module is removable from the computer and can be reprogrammed ...

Re: '95 LS X20XEV Hatchback

Having fixed the camshaft sensor again, the cav has developed a new problem with the engine now (believed to be a sticky valve). As there could be more problems with the engine and suspension I have taken the decision to admit defeat and have bought a m-reg Ford Mondeo. I have a friend who is really...

Re: EGR Valve Blanking what doe's it do?

Prevents exhaust gasses from being recirculated into the engine, which is done in the first place so that the exhaust gasses are cleaner. When my wifes S-reg Astra's EGR valve started playing up I blanked that off (with a home made gasket from a drinks can), and since then there have been no problem...

Camshaft sensor and other animals

So after months of driving around with the EML on complaining about the camshaft sensor on my X20XEV, it finally gave up and stopped the car from working. I called a mate to rescue me and between the two of us we replaced the sensor and got the car back home... Firstly - when you put the sensor in a...

Re: Quick tip...

The other day when my lock froze I just splashed a little anti-freeze on it, left it for about 30 seconds, unlocked the car, and then rinsed it off. The paint on my car is already rubbish, but it didn't seem to be damaged by the experience. Mind you, I haven't had the car re-sprayed, I'm not sure th...

Re: air temp gauge/dash illumination

...i was wondering if it is the the little black sensor that would be at fault. ( is there anything else to go wrong with it , and also is the sensor hidden behind the front bumper somewhere? ). i have seen them for sale on ebay for £4.95 - a bargain ? andrew I had this on my Cav, as Gaz said, it i...

Re: It was the best of times, it was the worst of times...

Ok, final post in this thread, then I'll go back to updating my WIP thread. A couple of days after my last post I noticed that the Cav was REALLY starting to lose power. Thinking it might be something like an air hose worked loose following the recent work (and praying that it wasn't the head gasket...

Re: It was the best of times, it was the worst of times...

Drove the car for getting on for a week now. All seems good apart from the fact that the EML has started to come on more often than not when I start it. Paper clip gives me camshaft sensor error. :wall :wall :wall I only changed it a month or so ago. It's had the new socket fitted, so I'm goin...

What to do with my traction control button?

So I bought a set of switches to go with my heated seats, and they came with a traction control button. As I have a 2l LS, I don't think that I'm going to be fitting more advanced traction control than I already have (if the wheels start spinning, I take my foot off the noise pedal...). So the quest...

I have seen (and taken a couple of snaps of) a couple of the more interesting Cavs around here, and I was wondering if there was a call to have a sticky thread or something like that on this site so that we can post pics of any interesting local Cavs? I would assume that some simple rules like obscu...

Re: a blonde question

The missus' mk4 Astra developed hesitation that was traced to a worn EGR (it was kinda juddery under partial load), so rather than spend a fortune replacing the thing or messing around trying to clean it I simply blanked it off. Since then we have found that the car feels like it pulls a little stro...

Re: Breakdown & Recovery

I'm insured with direct line, and I took the breakdown cover that they offered me with my insurance. It is only 10 miles, but I knew that when I bought it, and they have more comprehensive (and expensive) policies. They have been very good this last couple of weeks where I have needed to use the ser...

Am pretty disgusted at the recovery driver getting your car on the truck under its own power, especially with an engine fault and the extra strain going up the bed wont help, admittedly i do drive cars onto my spec frame, but they only climb a 2inch bar. But i never drive a car onto a bed, its unpr...

A weekend of highs and lows this one was for me, regarding the Cav. Drove down to Wales in it and by chance ended up in a convoy of three Cav's, which was nice... Re: '95 LS X20XEV Hatchback

Once I had the car and had driven it for a couple of weeks to make sure that it wasn't a lemon, I decided to make some improvements to it. As I had never changed anything more complicated than a headlight bulb on a car before, I started small. The rear windscreen wiper had the little cover thingy mi...
