Putting Full CAN Infotainment in a Cavalier

Robsey - You know the radio you have, is it possible to wire one of them up to run on its own using the mk3 astra GSI MFD that i have in my cav? Ie. so the display works etc.. Try a radio and screen from a Corsa-C...they are barely touched by the can-bus system. Temp Sensor and ABS wires still plug...

Re: No 1st & 2nd Gear - Now fixed

Clutch depends on what Vauxhall decided to fit to your car!! My 1994 1.8LSi is fited with a "POT" flywheel, which means the old fashioned method doesn't apply... that is: - remove inspection panel at bottom of bell housing. Get a friend to press the clutch pedal whilst you fit clutch clamp...

Re: Engine Control Indicator fault

If it's cable driven, has the cable drive snapped, or come off or loose from the gearbox end or the back of the speedo. Check also the little black electronic gizmo (another type of transducer) at the back of the speedo unit which converts the rotary action of a mechanical speedo to electronic pulse...

Re: Front Fogs

You will most likely find that all the wiring is there from the switch and relay and fuse, to the big connector in passenger footwell.... and then nothing!!! Wiring from this point forward will be needed! (Just one big switched wire through the bulk-head to the engine bay. Then from here (extend and...

Re: ABS light fails to illuminate

Maybe previous owner had a fault with ABS and couldn't get the light to go out., so removed the bulb to make it easier to sell. Probably just being cynical, but this was common practice at one time. Hope your ECU (EML) and Airbag lights come on and then go off approx 4 seconds after the engine start...

Re: Where are the chassis earth points on a cav engine bay?

Definately one big one next to the battery. (for the high consumption stuff) Although I do believe there is a smaller ground connection behind the engine (base of cylinder head, near to cam sprocket end) And also there should be a bunch of smallish ground wires near the wiper motor connection in the...

Re: LED lights

Never used these myself, but

As it says in the blurb, they are intended to be the same fitting as the original bulb.
Therefore, just twist anti-clockwise and pull out the originals, then push in and turn clockwise with the new ones.

Standard bayonet fitting.

Re: Front Fogs

I have a 1994 (M) 18 LSi, which came without fogs and wiring. Not a hard job to do. You will need: - Fuse for the fog-light position on fuse panel Either link wire in fuse box at relay position, or the correct relay. Then you need to insert a live feed from the large connector block in the passenger...

Re: dash illumination?

The heater panel is very poorly lit by a single 1.2 watt 12 volt capless bulb that pushes into along square receiver socket with two purple wires on the back of it. It may be worth upgrading to either a 2 watt or 3 watt alternative bulbs, as this one bulb has to light up the entire heater panel and ...

Re: Fit a fuel computer?

Ideally you should get one from an 8V engine without 4x4. there are indeed 3 types of white memory module that is fitted in the back of the computer housing. These are for: - 8 valve 16 valve and 4x4 vehicles. As said above, it would need the memory re-programming to suit your engine, fuel system, w...

Re: No 1st & 2nd Gear - Now fixed

Could this explain my difficulty getting just 1st gear? I know the clutch needs sorting as well bt all the other gears are ok atm. J Could be one or two things dependent upon gearbox type. The listed ones are:- 1 - Wrong oil grade / very old thinned out / contaminated oil 2 - worn synchro hubs or w...

No 1st & 2nd Gear - Now fixed

I looked on the forum to see if my problem had been mentioned before, however I didn't find a match, so here goes. On a recent post, I moaned that I thought that my gearbox had gone pop!! I was driving about 8 miles from home, when suddenly I lost the use of some of my gears. I was able to select re...

So, will this double up as a fuel computer and so on as well Rob? It's certainly more involved than I'd have gone with it. I like it though :D Fuel computer is not really a possibility, as the BC (Board Computer) functions in KWP format, but need to be CAN protocol on the display module. The sat na...

Aye, that side of things is controled by the multi-timer - however I have a cunning plan :D Look forward to hearing how you get on. Depending on your head unit, can't you do that by turning off the ignition logic function. Sure there is a section in the audio manual about this for the SC303 and the CD300...both quite basic Vx radio's. Failing that, you can still turn the radio on for 1 hr at a time with the ignition off. limited...

Seats are quite feeble in the Cav 3. I'm on my second driver's seat (both height adjustable). First one snapped just above the pivot point above the seat belt latch area. This one creaks when I move back and forth - usually to look in the glove box, or to look into the rear footwell for something I'...

Mixed Blessings. Got the car back on Friday, but mechanic said your water pump is P***ing out. Great I thought. More expense!! Anyway fitted a new water pump today despite one bolt refusing to come out...this took two attempts before it stopped dripping. Fired up the engine to let it warm up...water...
