Re: Stuff we've seen on the road
Was walking to the shop recently and heard this 1950's I think, Pontiac convertible rumble by. Heavy traffic meant I caught up to it and overtook it on foot. Gave me a chance to take a picture.

Re: Door check strap
Cavalier/Vectra A doors are always wanting to close by themselves anyway, it's just how the cars were designed. Other makes and models are different obviously. Steep hills just exaggerate it. In my experience, the front doors are more so than the rear doors. Rear doors tend to stay open more, perhap...

Re: Bi colour leds
You can run some wires behind the trim panels from the tail light clusters behind the rear plastic trim around the D-pillar, I've done it before, just rigged up some regular red LEDs for extra brake lights. They come on when the brake lights come on, all you're doing is adding extra lights to the br...

Just throwing out an idea here, they have a special glow plug relay don't they? Worth eliminating that as a suspect I guess.

I'd much rather be seen in that than any new Ford without a V8 under the hood.

Someone had too many beers the night before and decided to go for a joy ride in it, and probably ran out of gas or got bored and dumped it.

Re: 1.8 Auto gear 'selector' refurb/replace...
Hey Tim. I've done it on my old auto. It's not too bad of a job, just a couple of nuts to remove, the selector switch unit is just under where the power steering reservoir is, on top of the transmission. It's secured to the transmission dipstick tube with a metal bracket. One large nut on top of the...

Re: ABS instrument light not working
Silly question, I apologize, but has the car got ABS fitted? Early 90's models here with 2.0l engines mostly didn't have it fitted as standard from what I remember.
Can't think of what else would cause the light to not function, maybe the ABS control module?

Are you sure the bulb is definitely ok? Did you try swapping it with another one that you know works? They are very small so not easy to tell if they are broken or not.

Re: Robsey's Thread of Random Ramblings.
Exactly, all that pointless unnecessary crap they fill cars with nowadays only leads to problems and even dangerous situations. The engine should be turned on/off with the ignition key, not some stupid electronic computer! That's just beyond stupid. Driver should be in control of everything at all t...

Lol, I watched an episode of either Traffic Cops or Police Interceptors, one of those programs, and a traffic officer said that exact same thing after pulling someone over who wasn't wearing their seatbelt.Robsey wrote: Remove the air-bag and fit a spike in the centre of the steering wheel.
Too funny.

Welcome Dave. You just can't have anything these days without some scumbags always trying to mess with it. Hope you can find replacement parts, I'm sure someone has a set kicking around somewhere. I bought a complete lock set before, it came with door locks, ignition switch, glovebox lock and tailga...

Looks very nice. Being an older car, it's probably easier to find spare bodywork parts for it. They last a long time, these cars if looked after. Good rebuild.

Depends on how bad the leak is, if the gasket or seal at fault is nackered bad enough, no additive will help there.

Re: Rear spring seats
That's a hell of a lot of rust. The ones on my old V6 gave out as well, I had no clue about it, the mechanic said he lifted the car on a ramp and the springs basically fell out from the back. He actually fabricated a pair of new seats and welded them into place, cost me a few quid but a) couldn't fi...
