Re: Exhaust manifold heat wrap
I presume to make it look a bit shinier? The standard fitted exhaust shields are adequate to be honest, so if it's heat problems you have then check they're in place, as for manifolds, I'd leave it be to be fair, something will melt eventually. Think he means something like this, not a heat shield? ...

New F1 engine noise
See in the news that the Australian GP organisers are complaining the cars arent noisey enough and considering legal action.Must say I agree with them, the new v6 turbos sound sh1t compared to last years V8s or the old V10 &V12s.

Re: burning oil after valve job
Head set would normally include stem seals, any garage worth their salt would have changed them particularly as they say they had the valves out anyway.

Re: Need help identifying oil leak on C25XE
Ok well decided to check 3 plugs today on the front bank, number 6 well was full of oil :wall So definitely at least that cam cover gasket has gone, so definitely on the list to do asap. Didn't check the other 3 because that would have meant removing the inlet, and possibly replacing that gasket to...

Re: Need help identifying oil leak on C25XE
Remove the upper belt cover to look at the seals.
IIRC you need to .....
remove engine stabiliser bar, check the bush condition while its off.
stabiliser bracket,3 bolts onto the engine.
aux drive belt.
Aux belt tensioner
water pump pulley
pas pump pulley
and finally bolts that hold cover on.

Re: Need help identifying oil leak on C25XE
Don't think they were genuine but seemed to fit well in the covers. We did apply a bit of sealant to the surface at the back of the block, I ran my finger along the cam cover edge, a hint of oil there but I wouldn't say it's pissing out from there. It's gotta be something else. I used some pattern ...

Old garden or garage tools.
Whats the oldest bit of garden/garage equipment or tools you have that is still in use? I have a 1963 Landmaster rotorvator that I was given a couple of years ago and still use it on my allotment. http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i253/iancav6/DSCF13751280x960_zpsb3f7b957.jpg This is it minus the ge...

Well March is almost upon us,so time to wheel the 3 litre back out. :D Of the above jobs,I went to fit the new manifolds, but have managed to lose the gaskets somewhere in the garage so need to find or replace them. Checked gearbox oil level is ok. As for the other jobs, the wettest winter on record ...

Re: Need help identifying oil leak on C25XE
I had a similar leak on the 3 litre before I stripped it for rebuild but towards the front.turned out to be a cam seal.
Take the upper cam belt cover off to take a look.
your mystery wire might be the rear knock sensor, does it plug into the loom around the stabiliser bar?

Re: 3-D Printing
I'll bear all that highly interesting stuff in mind when I enter the SRi + 3-D mods into Le Mans. The fascinating question is whether the concept can or will be translated into providing more mundane spare parts that would otherwise not be available and mean that many worthwhile oldies end up prema...

Re: 3-D Printing
Pics of the RP engine we have at work. It was called R17,was/is a 2 litre inline 6 turbo. It was designed to run in the AMR-One which was a Le Mans prototype for racing in 2011.It was not a great success mostly down to time constraints and lack of development and the whole program was canned after th...

Re: 3-D Printing
We have been using rapid prototype parts at work for some time, it is amazing what they can achieve.we use it to make development parts where there isnt time to get the real one made, normally at the start of a program when you need to have a mock up car or engine.it has also been used to make inlet...

Re: Nice job on a Sunday afternoon.
Measured the clearances, all the inlets were too tight, exhausts all ok. Found a guy not far from here had a load of shims going cheap. Put the new shims in,remeasured all ok bar one which is a bit snug,so will redo next weekend. pic of the inlet cam out of the way, note that its a 5 valve head, bit of ...

Re: Nice job on a Sunday afternoon.
I take it, it didn't go well then. Only got the cover off this afternoon, need some different feelers from work to measure it up. Do you not have to adjust by changing the shims That's correct, will have to measure it, if any need adjustment, take the cams out and see what size shims are under the buc...

Nice job on a Sunday afternoon.
After 7 years of owning the FZR1000 I thought I'd better check the valve clearances as they are long overdue. The cam cover had started to weep oil aswell; two birds, one stone and all that. Looks a simple enough job,20 valves to measure and adjust, http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i253/iancav...
